DiS Users' February 2024 Album Of The Month

VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!

Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

My choices:

1. Friko - Where We’ve Been, Where We Go From Here

2. Vera Sola - Peacemaker

3. The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstasy

4. Middle Kids - Faith Crisis Part 1

I hadn’t heard of Friko before their plug and review on Pitchfork. Really love it. Very varied both across their songs and the music styles change within the same track. Would appeal to fans of Neutral Milk Hotel, Parts and Labor, early Modest Mouse, Cymbals Ear Guitars, Clap Your Hands and lots of early 2000s folk/rock. The album and its track listing is great and has been on repeat all week since its release.

Loved Vera Sola’s previous album and her live shows supporting them were brilliant too. It was one of my top 5 of the year when released. Her new one is a continuation of her previous; moody yet anthemic. I see that her dad has a crap show on one of the satellite channels. Who yer gonna call? I’ll call it a very good album.

The big album of the month is probably The Last Dinner Party. I’m neither sold on them hugely nor dislike them. It’s a decent enough album. There’s great band called The New Eves who I saw live last year and who have a similar music style and also have that late Victorian/Picnic At Hanging Rock look. They’re worth checking out too. TLDP album is good and has a couple of great tracks. Thankfully neither they nor The New Eves are as dull and boring as Picnic At Hanging Rock. Just to make it clear…Picnic At Hanging Rock is boring.

Liked Middle Kids’ album too in parts.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked. Not sure what’s out tomorrow. I’ll definitely check out the Nadine Shah album as her track Greatest Dancer was indeed great and her last was in my yearly top five too. I’ll also see what you guys are listening to.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 3rd March and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

Not sure I have a list this month. The AJ Suede and IDLES albums were good, but only listened once. Same with the Confucius MC album. Another quiet month.

Thanks for that post.

The last two Hurray For The Riff Raff albums were in my top three albums of the year when released. Love their stuff and their live shows.

My current choices will inevitably change after this release.

  1. TORRES - What an Enormous Room

I’m a huge fan. Love their voice, lyrics, music, and general energy. This is top tier Torres, for me. I’d be surprised if this doesn’t make my top five for the year. Gig in Bristol was brilliant too.

  1. Idles

Good innit

Did Future Islands come out in Feb? I love that.

Is well good, but came out in Jan
