DiS Users' February 2025 Album Of The Month - The Results

VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!

Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

My choices:

1. The Limiñanas - Faded

2. Horsegirl - Phonetics On and On

3. The Delines - Mr Luck and Ms Doom

4. Drop Nineteens - 19

5. Oklou - choke enough

I went to see Du Blonde, Half Waif and Brigid Mae Power this month and did my usual of getting reacquainted with their stuff before the gigs and so I haven’t heard too much new stuff.

The Limiñanas is far away the best of the month for me. The various guest vocalists/musicians give the album a great varied feel. Jon Spencer is on two tracks. The one I’ve posted is probably the best thing he’s done since his Acme album. That is the penultimate track on the album and after Spencer does his thing, the album finishes off with a beautiful Françoise Hardy cover; yep a very varied and a great album.

The Limiñanas were great live as usual last night at Rough Trade East and I got to use my GCSE French during the signing too.

I liked Horsegirl but need more time with it. The same with The Delines who I’ve been a fan of for around a decade or so.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked. Not sure what’s out tomorrow. I’ll see what you guys are listening to.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 9th March and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

Yeah, crazy strong month

In the four years of writing my blog, this is the first time I’ve skipped February cause there was nothing I liked enough to bother reviewing. :face_with_peeking_eye:

  1. Richard Dawson - End of the Middle
  2. Heartworms - Glutton for Punishment
  3. Squid - Cowards
  4. Deep Sea Diver - Billboard Heart
  5. Saor - Amidst the Ruins

Dawson and Heartworms both tussling for the top, think both are amazing after many listens.

Jules Reidy is going to be placed fairly high on my list. Love the tones in the tunes, both guitar and treated vocals, and every song has got lots of interesting stuff going on. Nice pick!

Could have chosen another 5 easily, and maybe Richard Dawson & Saya Gray (plus Darkside is actually really, really good) will be up there come year end, but found these to kinda fit my month. Bit off centre, bit low key, bit imperfect, but with some massive moments. Just kept returning to them and finding new pieces that are super interesting and unique. Anyway. Great month.
