21 people voted for Hookworms somewhere among their picks. Hookworms had seven people vote it as their number one album.

Only two people voted for Parquet Courts as their top album but 27 people voted for Parquet Courts somewhere in their votes and so they got top spot.

Thanks again for doing this, @BMS1 (And for all the monthly ones)

Parquet Courts is a decent winner - great album. Glad to see Young Fathers so high up too. Not in my personal top ten but would have been in my top 20 and given the much-discussed lack of rap in the monthly lists it’s a pleasant surprise.

For all my complaining about Hookworms it’s a fairly decent album with some great songs - would have been depressingly predictable if it had won but they seem like decent sorts.

Glad for Let’s Eat Grandma that they made the list, especially at such short notice. The best record in this top 10 by a mile.

Amen Dunes at 5?!?!?!? Come on guys - landfill indie wasn’t good the first time around, we really don’t need a revival picking up steam

Great work again @BMS1 good on you.
Has served as a reminder to check out a good few albums that i’ve not gotten to yet.

Pcbe

I did buy that amen dunes album and for me it’s merely okay, didn’t really click with me but it doesn’t really resemble landfill indie as far as I can see/hear.

I would never have predicted that result. A very decent record by an excellent band but nowhere near special enough to be album of the (half) year. That’s aggregation for you I suppose - interesting that only two people put it top.

Cool, six months to convince y’all Self Defense is album of the year worthy then, cool

Amen Dunes as “landfil indie” Have you listened to it ? It’s not exactly The View.

Suspected I’d get a couple of :fishing_pole_and_fish:s on this

Multiple times, unfortunately.

Guess it depends on your definition of landfill indie. I generally tend to use the term to describe any indie that’s lazy to the point that it borders on pastiche, that is hugely derivative and so unmemorable that it is completely disposable. Obviously if your criteria is that it has to be made by UK bands of the 00s trying to be the next Oasis then I’d concede it’s not exactly that. It’s not much better, mind.

The praise it’s been getting from people who would howl with derision if another band released the same album has been quite a head-scratcher for me :man_shrugging:t2:

I love the Parquet Courts record and think it’s absolutely worthy of top spot for the half-year. It builds brilliantly on their other albums. It’s a play-it-loud, party record and I can’t get enough of it. I’m a right miserable sod and this album cheers me up and makes me feel good and I can’t think of a record that’s had that effect on me for years.

It’s all just opinions, but as one of the ‘Parquet Courts Two’ I felt I had to justify why it is quite special enough for a top-spot for me anyway.

That’s fine of course, I like it fine as well. I can easily understand why lots of people like it as well, I suppose what I was trying to express was that it just feels a bit ‘slight’ (for want of a better word) to be an AOTY contender. It’s all subjective of course.

Dream Wife’s album is fucking great. Surprised that’s not there. Feel a bit out of touch with DiS taste.

Also… no Neko Case fans on here?

I can see why Parquet Courts got No.1, I find it by far their most immediate and varied release. I think quite a few of those votes will be others believing it to be their first consistently solid album.

Anna von Hausswolff for me, Geoff

:wave:t2:

Was really disappointed with it tbh. I go to Neko Case to hear that voice. But this one seemed to have invariably dull, gruff male vocal guests on half the tracks, which completely detracted from the whole.

How can that happen though if Typhoon is already the AOTY?
