Flotation Toy Warning are sort of like Mercury Rev/Grandaddy-esque, just more laid back with a deeper voice.

Terror Pigeon are an excitable danceable poppy band that might irritate, but I quite enjoy.
The first song from the album (Chamber of Secrets for 1) is one of my favourites from the year, just super catchy: https://terrorpigeon.bandcamp.com/album/we-will-never-run-out-of-love

  3. Dizzee Rascal - Raskit

although I’ve only just discovered Manchester Orchestra and on first listen they could break into the top 3.

Really enjoyed the new releases from Public Service Broadcasting, Alan Vega and Avey Tare too.

It’s ended up being a pretty pretty pretty good month again…

  2. Daphni - Fabriclive 93
  3. Karen Gwyer - Rembo

Also really liking the two Shabazz Palaces LPs, and Cornelius return is a little treat too. Not feeling the Avey Tare unfortunately, and the less said about Everything Now the better.

  1. Sheer Mag - Need To Feel Your Love
  2. Terry - Remember Terry

That’s it. Been a bit of a ‘meh’ month for me. Was really looking forward to those two Shabazz Palaces albums but found them almost painfully lifeless. Still need to give Hug of Thunder a proper listen though.

  1. Avey Tare - Eucalyptus

  2. Shabazz Palaces - Quazarz

  3. Sheer Mag - Need To Feel Your Love

  4. Broken Social Scene - Hug of Thunder

Glad I’m not the only one listening to that Shabazz album. Have you heard the other one?

Unfortunately, I think the Flotation Toy Warning album was released in June.

On a happier note: cue odd coincidence time - I read your reference to Flotation Toy Warning at the same time I discovered The Fitzcarraldo Sessions’ “We Hear Voices!”. Turns out that Paul Carter of FTW collaborates with TFS on one of the tracks on that album: “I, Ignorist”. Small world … and nice album.

It was released in France in June, and in the UK in July (not that it will get in the top ten of this list anyhow, so doesn’t matter too much! ).
Will check out The Fitzcarraldo Sessions, thanks!

Ah, right-o. Well, your posting still made me have a listen.Interesting sound (but not affecting my July AotM selection). You’ll find The Fitzcarraldo Sessions quite a different beast. The French connection might explain the collab. with Paul Carter - The F Sessions do hail from France.
