VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!
VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!

I’ve often wanted to award points to my 4th and 5th favourites especially on strong months for releases and wasn’t able due to my own rules and they end up as honourable mentions.

Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd,3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked.

My choices:
1. Jesca Hoop - Stonechild
2. Purple Mountains - S/T
3. Penelope Isles - Until The Tide Creeps In
4. Darren Hayman - 12 Astronauts
5. Ada Lea - What We Say In Private

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 4th August and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

Only got three but need to make sure Yellow Eyes gets some points. LISTEN TO IT.

  1. Yellow Eyes - Rare Field Ceiling (by an absolute country mile, or even an entire country - best record I’ve heard in ages, and up there with best BM records I’ve ever heard)

  2. Wreck & Reference - Absolute Still Life

  3. Tomb Mold - Planetary Clairvoyance

Really slow month for me, possibly the first of the year to be a real disappointment.

I can only really vote for two:

  1. Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains
  2. Mark Mulcahy- The Gus
  1. Bobby Krlic - Midsommar
  2. Pere Ubu - The Long Goodbye
  1. Trash Kit - Horizon
  2. Strange Ranger - Remembering the Rockets
  3. Purple Mountains - s/t
  4. Flaming Lips - Kings Mouth (not sure this counts)

With more time, I think Strange Ranger would score higher.

Just one for me this month.

  1. Strange Ranger - Remembering the Rockets

I’m only three listens in and need to take a break from it since everything is getting stuck in my head and I don’t want to ruin it, but I think it’s safe to say they’ve done it again. It’s different from Rot Forever and Daymoon but is unmistakably them. It starts off almost a little upbeat sounding (think a hybrid between Third Eye Blind and The Cure) and then gets increasingly more sad as it progresses (uncomfortably so at times). The ending sequence is stunning. I can’t say enough good things about this band. If you like beautiful, sad, melodic indie rock with an impending sense of doom, give this a shot.

  1. The Reds, Pinks and Purples - Anxiety Art (Feels like wearing your mothers panties. Comfortable excitement with a tinge of sadness)
  2. Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains
  3. Petite League - Rattler

Only 3 for me but tbh they’re probably my 3 favourite albums of the year so far, all properly stunning and I can’t wait to spend more time with them:

  1. Strange Ranger - Remembering the Rockets
  2. Florist - Emily Alone
  3. Felicia Atkinson - The Flower and the Vessel

Slim pickings this month

  1. Various - Tiny Changes: Frightened Rabbit Tribute
  2. Jesca Hoop - STONECHILD
  3. Khruangbin - Hasta El Cielo
  4. Florist - Emily Alone
  5. The Soft Cavalry - The Soft Cavalry

I don’t think I’ve ever read anything that’s made me want to listen to a record less than this does.
