VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!
Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.
Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.
My choices:
1. Breakup Haircut - Punk Dancing For Self Defence
2. Momma - Household Name
3. Gwenno - Tresor
4. TRAAMS - personal best
5. Katy J Pearson - Sound Of The Morning
I’ve yet to listen to the new Nina Nastasia album.
July finally delivered for me with regard to new albums. The last couple of months have been pretty quiet for me. I’ve seen all my five choices live over the last few months. Not much between my choices and they’re all strong 8/10 albums for me. I gave the top pick to Breakup Haircut as I had the most fun at their live show a few months ago over the other bands.
Breakup Haircut remind me of the indie that I used to love during the 90s. They’re a great fun indie rock band and remind me the band that dog from their Totally Crushed Out album, early Tegan and Sara and some of The Breeders there too. They’ve some brilliant tunes and very sharp witty lyrics on their debut album and definitely deserve a wider audience. Great live act too and worth checking out.
The Momma album a few years ago was probably in my top 10 of the year. Really liked the slacker pop-rock there. The follow up is a more polished rock album and hopefully they’ll be back soon to tour this again.
Seen The Pipettes quite a few times and Gwenno four times live now. Two memorable times were at The Globe and Hoxton Hall; perfect venues for her music. Glad she got the Mercury nomination. Well deserved and a very good album.
Hadn’t heard of TRAAMS before a few weeks ago. A great under reviewed album. Live they’re a very tight outfit.
Took a while for the new Katy J Pearson album to click with me. Really liked her debut and this one’s just as strong.
Not sure what’s out tomorrow apart from Ithaca. The tracks I’ve heard sound pretty strong
Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked.
Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 7th August so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases before choosing.
Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.
