So tight… Let’s Eat Grandma, FJM, Neko Case, Lump and Self Defense Family would be up there any other less stacked month. Also really enjoyed Dancehall, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Death Grips, Virginia Wing and Jonathan Bree

Very disappointed to see so little love for Melody’s Echo Chamber - it’s a special follow-up to a promising debut. Much of it builds on the gorgeous sound of that album, but it explores a lot of new ground too, with parts of it (especially Dark Horse) sounding like a more tuneful version of the Voidz. Excellent stuff.

Lykke Li would have won in most other months. An excellent pop album, so many memorable moments. Let’s Eat Grandma is also stellar, rounding out what might be the strongest top 3 of the year. 2018 will have been very strong indeed if any of these miss out on top-10.

Was initially nonplussed by Snail Mail, as it’s fairly standard indie. But after a couple of listens it’s clear these are extremely well written “just-good-indie-pop” songs in the same way that Alvvays’ debut was. Glad that Kanye slightly redeemed himself with Kids See Ghosts, which is not as good as Daytona but miles ahead of Ye

  1. Kamasi Washington - Heaven and Earth

If I hadn’t just listened to it for the first time yesterday it could very well have ended up in my top 3, very impressed

Yeah the Melody’s Echo Chamber record is great in places. Shirim is pretty much a Giorgio by Moroder cover and is wonderful for it.

  3. Let’s Eat Grandma - I’m All Ears

Snail Mail hits a sweet spot, nothing revolutionary but mighty satisfying, looking forward to seeing them live.

Colin/Bamnan’s album is brilliant and you should all go and listen and buy it.

Only just starting listening to I’m All Ears but quite struck by it.

Haven’t really listened to much other new stuff this month as I’ve been jamming favourite summer records and also been drawn into the deep dank well of the Classic Hip Hop Thread.
