DiS Users' June 2022 Album Of The Month

VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!

Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

My choices: Quiet month for me. Spent a lot of the time reacquainting myself with bands I was seeing live in June. The Deliluh gig this month was one of the best of the year but the album isn’t in the same class but will probably make my top five. The Sinead O’Brien gig which lasted about three or four songs sounded better than the album also. Thought the Nova Twins album was great fun. There’s new releases by Soccer Mommy and Zola Jesus tomorrow and will give those a listen as well as stuff posted here before posting a top 5.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 3th July so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

Completely missed that ^this was out :open_mouth:

Editing to add a second pick:

  1. GHUM — Bitter
  2. Automatic — Excees

I’ll go for:

  1. Joan Shelley - The Spur
  2. Nova Twins - Supernova
  3. Deliluh - Fault Lines

By the way. I’ll do a “best of the year so far” thread after this month’s count from the top 10s compiled from each of the months this year. I’ve done that before and they’ve had enough responses to make another thread viable.

I’m not even halfway through my June playlist so that’s about 50 hours to listen to by Sunday. Honestly get myself more stressed by the cut-off for these votes than some of my work deadlines. Not that I think they should be extended, we just need less music to be released.

Ooh, thought there was another June release day tomorrow so was going to hold off my choices. My picks won’t impact much/at all on the final scoreboard, so I won’t overthink it too much, but plenty of music I really liked this morning

  1. Saya Gray - 19 MASTERS
  2. Shearwater - The Great Awakening
  3. GOON - Paint By Numbers, Vol. 1
  4. Field Guides - Ginkgo
  5. Jasmyn - In The Wild
  6. Bennedikt - Jag Ar Sen Igen
  7. Crake - Humans’ Worst Habits
  8. Perfume Genius - Ugly Season
  9. Den Svenska Bjornstammen - Djur Och Manniska
  10. Josin - Traveller EP
  11. Efterklang - Plexiglass
  12. Dylan Henner - Flues Of Forgotten Sand
  13. Damien Jurado - Reggae Film Star

The Saya Gray album is brilliant and so inventive and catchy, have played it so much this month.
Shearwater I have probably not listened more than a couple of times, but it sounded lovely and I know I will properly listen to it when I stop trying to discover other music.
GOON is a great catchy EP, with one track sounding like Beach House, and the others sounding like other bands I can’t quite remember now.
Field Guides is just quite pretty - thanks for this recommendation @rich-t - just had a proper listen to it today and really loved it
Jasmyn is some lovely catchy indie pop

Not that many replies so far. Just a bump if anyone wants to get their choices in.

The deadline as usual will be Sunday afternoon.

  1. Kangding Ray - Ultrachroma
  2. Hercules & Love Affair - In Amber
  3. Angel Olsen - Big Time

Really quiet month for me.
Kangding Ray probably the only one that I’ll continue listening to.
Angel Olsen’s I’ve heard a load of times and still don’t remember much about it.

Not sure if compilation albums are eligible for AOTM votes? Borga Revolution is excellent, but will swap it out if not (not that it will likely trouble the top 10 either way).

Angel Olsen just nudges out Mick Head, but like crackling I’m struggling to recall much of it.

  1. Benny Bock - Vanishing Act
  2. Various - Borga Revolution! Ghanaian Dance Music In The Digital Age 1983-1992 (Vol 1)
  3. Perfume Genius - Ugly Season
  4. Kibrom Birhane - Here And There
  5. Angel Olsen - Big Time

Me Rex – Jupiter Pluvius (EP)
Short Fictions – Every Moment of Every Day
Crake – Humans’ Worst Habits
Horsegirl – Versions of Modern Performance
Joyce Manor – 40 oz. to Fresno

With the disclaimer that I’ve not got round to listening to Soccer Mommy, Angel Olsen, Perfume Genius or Automatic yet.
