DiS Users' June 2025 Album Of The Month

VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!

Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

My choices:

1. Chloe Foy - Complete Fool

2. U.S. Girls - Scratch It

3. Hotline TNT - Raspberry Moon

4. Lucy Gooch - Desert Window

5. Lifeguard - Ripped and Torn

I’ve heard the Chloe Foy album twice maybe and the others I’ve mentioned just once. I’ve literally just finished my first listen of U.S. Girls coming into work just now and I probably need more time with the Lifeguard album. I saw Sharp Pins live this month but unfortunately the first listen to Lifeguard didn’t grab me as much as I hoped and nowhere near as the Sharp Pins album did.

I haven’t heard too many other new albums this month apart from those I’ve mentioned. I saw a few gigs this month including Kim Deal, Black Flag and Roisin Murphy and I was listening a lot of Black Flag and Roisin Murphy/Moloko to familiarise myself with their stuff.

Kim Deal’s recent album came across far far better live than on record and even Dave Grohl’s appearance didn’t spoil a great gig. The Gen Z version of Black Flag was surprisingly great fun.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked. Not sure what’s out tomorrow. I’ll see what you guys are listening to.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 6th July and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

Good list, lots of crossover with my own month, however I found that this album:

left me cold. Might try it again if it’s a bit more than standard MOR indie fare?

:man_shrugging: good enough for my no 1, the balance of the jerky stuff and the more lazy drawn out psych elements

Another strong month…

  1. Death In Vegas - Death Mask
  2. TFS - Fairyland Codex
  3. Lorde - Virgin
  4. Pulp - More
  5. The Bug Club - Very Human Features

Few things are going to make me happier than a new Death In Vegas album. This one is more in the sphere of his Richard Fearless/drone persona, but fortunately I like that side of his work also. Please don’t leave it another 8 years between album ffs. TFS back with another doomy slab of songs - developing a very solid back catalogue with album four. Lorde is back to what she does best, making a summertime album of bangers. Pulp - it’s like they’ve never even been away. Bug Club serve up more of the same, but when your previous stuff has been so much fun I’ll happily take some more of it thankyou please :+1:
