Found vampire weekend a bit overbearing, the national a bit overlong and dull.

1 Carly Rae Jepsen
2 Rammstein
3 Employed to Serve
4 Slowthai
5 Big Thief

I’ll level with you, I’ve not really bothered to listen to thw National one that much because it wasn’t Turtlenecky enough and the Vampy Weekend one is long and I was asked to turn it off and I haven’t even heard a new release from this week and missed a load of ither ones too. Ok.

Spectacular month. Longlist of 20 albums all of which would have made it to at least second place in my January list, and which has taken me some time to order.

  4. Skepta - Ignorance is Bliss
  5. Ian Noe - Between the Country

also dug Tyler the Creator, Soundwalk Collective with Patti Smith, and although it’s a bit of a drop off Mac Demarco was quite a good hangover soundtrack the other day.

Hmmm Dave did nothing for me on first listen - just a bit generic and boring. Maybe I wasn’t it the right mood though as the new Skepta wasn’t doing a lot for me either.

This was my take as well on Dave so not just you. Didn’t think the new Skepta was a patch on Konichiwa sadly. Little Simz and Slowthai streets ahead of those two albums for my money.

I think it’s got three really great tracks on it - Streatham, Black and Screwface Capital - and the rest is pretty solid. If you don’t like those three it’s probably not for you.

I think the Slowthai record is probably better, mainly because it is a bit nastier and uncompromising.

  2. Her Name Is Calla - Animal Choir
  3. We Never Learned To Live - The Sleepwalk Transmissions

Not had anywhere near long enough with number 2, but I think it could end up in my AOTY list. Seems like a beautiful record. Atmospheric post-rock with great vocals, some folk parts and a little Radioheady in places. (Crap at descriptions.)

I’d not heard of Petrels before Friday. The Dusk Loom is enchanting in places. Tiny Specks Of Light is beautiful and already one of my favourite tracks of the year. I imagine it is something Jon Hopkins could produce, if he stepped out if his comfort zone.
