If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

Great to have Fightmilk back with their second album. A mix of trademark indie rock bangers such as “…You Don’t Even Want To Go To Space” and “Cool Cool Girl” together with quieter tracks such as the brilliant “You Are Not The Universe” and their track “Girls Don’t Want To Have Fun” is simply stunning; one of the best songs of the year.
I’ve seen Fightmilk quite a few times live. Their live act is always warm, fun and never fails to put big smiles on the faces of the crowd. I’ve seen enough bands over the years to know it’s impressive how effortlessly they make it look.
Two brilliant albums and an exceptional live act makes them one of the best British indie bands.

Never heard of Olivia Rodrigo before seeing the reviews for this one. Some great tracks on this. Drivers License, 1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back and Deja Vu is a very impressive trifecta. Excellent album.

Enjoyed the St. Vincent album on the whole. Never been a huge fan but enough good stuff on this for me give it quite a few repeated listens.

I liked Jess Cornelius and Billie Marten too.

I thought I’d start the ball rolling before tomorrow’s releases. Not really sure what’s out tomorrow apart from Black Midi who I’ve seen but not a fan of.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 6th June so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases before choosing.

Very much not off the back of giving a wide amount of May releases a good listen but:

  1. Squid - Bright Green Field
  2. Sarah Neufeld - Detritus
  3. Sons of Kemet - Black to the Future
  4. St. Vincent - Daddy’s Home
  5. Fightmilk - Contender

Even in that narrow list I’ve barely given places 3-5 a proper listen because frankly Squid and Sarah Neufeld have been really capturing me (alongside extra listens to Logue which I really felt like I should like a lot more but is effectively 6th place).

Great month. Disappointment is probably the Lambchop record. So slight you forget about it while you’re actually listening to it. Shame as their last few albums have been great.

He’s said it’s not being released on streaming services.
His prerogative, but it is a bit of a pain not being able to play it on spotify. Thankfully, it’s worth the extra effort.

Quality over quantity this month. Only a few albums stood out but they were very good indeed.

  5. Lambchop - Showtunes

However, I listened to the St Vincent today and I liked it much more than I thought I would. I look forward to spending more time with it over the next few weeks.

Hardly anything else registered with me this year but that is ok because it allows me to spend more time with the above.

Also fucking loving the reissue of Roger Fakhr’s Fine Anyway and that absolutely rad Tropico De Color Vol. 2 compilation. Haven’t checked out Black Midi or Mach Hommy yet but will probably rectify that this evening.
