DiS Users' May 2021 Album Of The Month - THE RESULTS

I’ll count the votes tomorrow around midday.

  2. Aloa Input - Devil’s Diamond Memory Collection
  3. The Real Tuesday Weld - Blood
  4. Iosonouncane - IRA
  5. Thee More Shallows - Dad Jams

A very strong month. Wasn’t quite sure about the order of my top two, but I think I’ll give it to BAMBI just because I think they’re going to introduce me to so many other acts. They seem to be a Danish string quintet, and have got guest singers (mostly also Danish?) singing on each track, pretty much all of them I love, so will be sure to listen to investigagte them.
The Aloa Input album is just so listenable and catchy, and definitely for fans of The Notwist.
I’m a long time fan of TRTW, and was sad to see they’ve announced that they’ll be calling it a day this year. but they’ll release three albums first, and this one had some really good tracks on it.
Iosonouncane is an interesting one. It’s very long, so it’s hard to get a grip of, and it’s quite unsettling. But there are some great songs on it, and it could be one that grows on me even more as I listen.
and it’s great to have Thee More Shallows back. The first song is so good. I’m not sure if the album is as good as their previous albums, but it’s thankfully not a disappointment.

Bonus songs which could have been in my top five if I compiled the list on a different day:

Jonas Bonnetta - Drifting Snow
Stefano Guzzetti - Lumen
Manitas Nerviosas - A Love Supreme

Mustafa - When Smoke Rises

Is there a mid-year list now that we’re reaching mid-summer? I thought I saw a thread but not seeing it rn

I usually do a sixth monthly vote immediately after I’ve counted up June’s AOTM votes.

Being a dull pragmatic planner I’ll the open the June AOTM on Thursday 24th June and count it up on Sunday July 4th and will then release a six month poll of the albums so far this year from the AOTM threads.

Usually there’s around 65-ish albums in the list where people can vote for up to ten of them.

Oh right. So only picking from the existing lists?

I was hoping to find some outlier recommendations and finding the individual genre threads too sprawling.

I’ve heard nearly all the above already

Only just listening to this off the back of a mate and I’m really enjoying it. I totally wasn’t expecting to either.

Can’t believe you weren’t already listening to it on the back of my recommendation as the 31st best album of May! I haven’t actually listened to it since but I will do soon, revisiting the year month by month at the moment but only got to February so far. It’s been a pretty good year for R&B or maybe I’ve just been feeling it more this year than usual.

There was a remix album out recently which I have been meaning to listen to but not got round to yet.

Yeah I found you putting that up on a recent release when I was searching to see if it had been mentioned.

This feels like filing it under ‘R&B’ is a bit of an injustice but then I don’t really know how I’d file it exactly. All I know is that R&B pop isn’t something I click with really at all and yet…
