DiS Users' May 2022 Album Of The Month

Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

My choices: Quite month for me. Liked these albums but nothing amazing here and spent more time listening to bands I was seeing this month rather than new releases. Having said that I’ve seen my top four live in May.

1. Sigrid - How To Let Go

2. Porridge Radio - Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky

3. Belle and Sebastian - A Bit Of Previous

4. Warpaint - Radiate

5. Ethel Cain - Preacher’s Daughter

The Sigrid album was good fun big pop numbers.

Liked the Porridge Radio album despite their thing of the same line being repeated over and over again.

As I was going to see Belle and Sebastian live, I did revisit their new album despite finding it dull on first listen. Did improve after repeat listens but won’t be revisiting until their live dates later this year.

Both Warpaint and Ethel Cain albums were decent too. I’m expecting quiet a few votes for both those albums here.

Not sure what’s out tomorrow apart from Just Mustard who I saw live a few years ago for a few songs where Porridge Radio were the support. An album from Stars too but I haven’t heard dipped too much into them apart from their Set Yourself On Fire album from around 15 years ago.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 5th June so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

Quite a slow month for me. Will see what tomorrow has in store

Not a vintage month so far for me, though I’ve got a few lined up for tomorrow that I’m excited about, including Maria BC, Lucrecia Dalt, Melissa Weikart, DEHD, Just Mustard and Stick In The Wheel. So I reckon my top 5 will change significantly over the next few days, but for now it’d include Peaness, Mr. Fingers, The Stroppies, Ailie Ormston & Tim Fraser, and Moon Tooth, I reckon.

The songs from this record that have been released so far are pretty special.

Properly excellent

Yeah that^

  1. The Epheremon Loop - Psychonautic Escapism
  2. Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
  3. Blut Aus Nord - Disharmonium - Undreamable Abysses
  4. Pan American - The Patience Fader
  5. Phelimuncasi - Ama Gogela

Might be the first month this year that I have actually been able to listen to music in any meaningful capacity. The Quelle Chris record is top of the need-to-listen pile, so that’s probably going in the top 3.

Good month for me;

  1. Arcas - Arcas (possible AOTY)
  2. Stjärnfält - Lapporten
  3. Blut Aus Nord - Disharmonium: Undreamable Abysses
  4. Olhava - Reborn
  5. Aara - Triade II: Hemery
  1. Everything Everything - Raw Data Feel
  2. HAAi - Baby we’re ascending
  3. Moderat - MORE D4TA
  4. Sigrid - How to let go
  5. Harry Styles - Harry’s House

I’m sure Just Mustard will be up there in time but don’t think I’ll get time to give it a fair shot before voting ends, so

  1. FREE/SLOPE - Blissful Repetitions
  2. Warpaint - Radiate Like This
  3. The Stroppies - Levity
  4. Cola - Deep in View
  5. Kendrick Lamar - Mr Morales

Honourable mentions - Porridge Radio, Hydroplane, They Hate Change, Navet Confit, Wilma Vritra

Best month since June 21 I think (when we had Sault, KG&LW’s Butterfly 3000, Wolf Alice, Japanese Breakfast & Tyler The Creator all in one month). A constant drip of v good new releases:

  1. Obongjayar - Some Nights I Dream of Doors
  2. FREE / SLOPE - Blissful Repetitions
  3. Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
  4. Everything Everything - Raw Data Feel
  5. Alune Wade - Sultan
6-15 albums
  1. Long Island Sound - Lost Connection
  2. Sharon Van Etten - We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong
  3. Rolling Blackouts CF - Endless Rooms
  4. Black Nile - River of Emotions
  5. Busty and the Bass - KARNEVAL
  6. Nduduzo Makhathini- In The Spirit of Ntu
  7. Soccer96 - Inner Worlds
  8. Harry Styles - Harry’s House
  9. Kevin Morby - This Is A Photograph
  10. Wilco - Cruel Country
  1. Kendrick Lamar - Mr Morale & the Big Steppers
  2. Everything Everything - Raw Data Feel
  3. Tourist - Inside Out
  4. Tsha - Fabric presents TSHA
  5. Harry Styles - Harry’s House

The Smile and Moderat were big disappointments for me. Really bored by both.
Didn’t think Arcade Fire was as bad as made out in certain quarters though.

Fun month, nice mix of big hitters and new discoveries. International Anthem fast becoming my favourite label.

  1. Daniel Villarreal - Panamá 77
  2. Kendrick Lamar - Mr Morale & the Big Steppers
  3. The Smile - A Light For Attracting Attention
  4. Cola - Deep in View
  5. Moderat - MORE D4TA

Have had some entertainment with Arcade Fire, not heard the Wilco LP yet. Sharon Van Etten and Warmth always decent.

Fine month, but lacking a bit of depth of quality that has seen other months running deep.

  1. Hater - Sincere
  2. Sharon Van Etten - We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong
  3. Kevin Morby - This Is A Photograph
  4. Say Sue Me - The Last Thing Left
  5. Maria BC - Hyaline

Reckon that Maria BC album would be higher if released earlier in the month.

1.The Smile - A light for attracting attention
2. Sharron Van Etten - We’ve been going about this all wrong
3. Arcade Fire - WE
4. Porridge Radio - Waterslide, diving board, ladder to the sky
5. Warpaint - Radiate like this
