DiS Users' May 2023 Album Of The Month

VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!

Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

My choices:

1. Rahill - Flowers At Your Feet

2. Mega Bog - End Of Everything

3. Olivia Jean - Raving Ghost

A quiet month for me and a lot of the month was spent listening to bands I was going to see live this month rather than new releases.

I’ve seen Habibi many years ago of whom Rahill was the lead singer. Really enjoyed listening to this trip-hop indie album whilst on holiday as well her set at Rough Trade NYC over there. Enjoyed Mega Bog and Olivia Jean but it hasn’t been a great month so far for me with new releases.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked. Not sure what else is out tomorrow so I’ll see what you guys come up with.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 4th June and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

In the running for me so far are BC Camplight, LP Giobbi, Sir Chloe, Ya Tosiba, Rahill, Lucy Liyou, Pozi, The Allergies and Mandy, Indiana.

Not lots out tomorrow that I’m expecting to get into the top 5, but interested to listen to the new ones from JAAW, Shirley Collins, Water From Your Eyes and Scrimshire.

Only new record i’ve properly listened to this month is Mandy,Indiana. Think it’s excellent.

Got a few outstandings on the list but so far this has been a month of disappointments more than anything else; Overmono, Upsammy and Mandy, Indiana really haven’t landed for me. Still need to listen to Bar Italia and Warrington Runcorn bla bla bla if I can get over the awful name.

please try, it’s possibly his best so far.

I do believe the new Sparks could be a contender.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one.

Have enjoyed albums by the following artists this month…

Billy Woods, Warrington-Runcorn… , Ironsides, Sunglasses For Jaws, BC Camplight, James Ellis Ford, Modern Kosmology, Whatitdo Archive Group, The Pigeons…

Billy Woods and Warrington Runcorn are nailed on for 2 of the top 3 (Sparks might have a say in that after tomorrow). Need to spend more time with a few of the others and also want to get round to listening to albums by Jam City and Gas Lamp Killer/Heliocentrics before i vote.

I won’t vote for it cos its an EP but ‘Transatlantic Sugar’ by Alice Low is great too.

Just realised the new Mesarthim album is out tomorrow so I might have to change this.

After a quick scan of this week’s releases, I must say this month has been a dud.

Well, these two have just thrown my top 5 into chaos

It’s very Blade Runner esque.

First month in ages where I’ve listened to quite a few new things properly - coincides with my quiet time at work, so I’ve been listening at work A LOT.

  1. Charlotte Cornfield - Could have done anything
  2. Daniel Avery - More Truth
  3. James Holden - imagine this is…
  4. Billy Woods - Maps
  5. Overmono - Good Lies

Quite like that bar italia one but not to the same extent. Need to give that mandy indiana one, another whack or two.

Thanks for the heads up. I need to check this out. I liked her gig at The Lexington last year.
