Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.
Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.
My choices:
Cat Power - Cat Power Sings Dylan
Baby Queen - Quarter Life Crisis
Drop Nineteens - Hard Light
Ian Sweet - SUCKER
Marnie Stern - The Comeback Kid
Yep. Tomorrow is the last day this month for new releases and so this thread is sort of out early.
A quiet month for me. I haven’t really listened to or been taken by much. Cat Power’s cover album was lovely and simply beautiful on a few songs. She’s my top pick. The others that made my top 5 are just albums I didn’t mind and have just listed them alphabetically.
Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked.
Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 1st December and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.
Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.
Nostalghia - Echoes From The Moonriver (third full length this year!)
Ysbrydnos - Phantasmal Bells Below The Devil’s Pulpit*
*The Devil’s Pulpit is a local landmark close to where I grew up in the Forest of Dean which I was often dragged to on a Sunday afternoon family walk! It overlooks the ruins of Tintern Abbey and supposedly old Nick used to tempt the monks from this perch. Having seen it the monks must have had bloody good eyesight!
There’s nothing out tomorrow that I’m holding out for, so I’ll go now. Surprisingly strong month!
1: Rainy Miller & Space Afrika - A Grisaille Wedding
2: Unkle G & Gavsborg - An Honest Meal
3: John Francis Flynn - Look Over The Wall, See The Sky
4: Blockhead - The Aux
5: ML Buch - Suntub
Five really good records. Haven’t seen any mention of Gavsborg or ML Buch, but both very good - Gavsborg is low-key dancehall / rap - lovely vibe to it. ML Buch is kind of hyper-processed guitar stuff, some songs, some instrumentals. Took me a while to get my head round it, but it’s properly interesting and some lovely songs when they come. Rainy Miller & Space Afrika is the one though. Great, great record.
