DiS Users September 2016 Album Of The Month

On the new boards.

Vote for your favourite album and also your second and third choices. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first three mentioned as 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get three points, 2nd placed album two points and 3rd placed album one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that three points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with three and two points accordingly.

A very strong month for me album-wise. I’m really getting into the Flock Of Dimes album (Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak). The unscheduled album release from Petite Meller was great fun; brilliant pop. Tomorrow Jenny Hval’s new album is coming out. Her last album was great and her gig/performance art show at Cafe Oto was very memorable. My top three:

  1. Angel Olsen - My Woman
  2. Beach Slang - A Loud Bash Of Teenage Feelings
  3. The Wedding Present - Going, going…

Angel Olsen’s new one is a stunning follow up to her last. No song on it comes close to her favourite of mine “Windows” but overall it’s such a brilliant album. She’s probably my artist of the month too. I saw her gig at Webster Hall when I went to New York a few weeks ago and I also had the opportunity to say a quick hello and get a photo with her at her Rough Trade NYC album signing.
The Beach Slang album title captures their music for me. A fun rock album that reminds me of the stuff I’d love in the 90s when I was a teenager. Definitely worth checking out.
The Wedding Present, ever consistent, do it again with another great release.
My choices may change after listening to the Jenny Hval album but I thought I’d get this thread started and posted.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 9th October and so you’ll have over a week to listen to yesterday’s releases before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

  1. Nick Cave - Skeleton Tree (Album of the year)
  2. Okkervil River - Away
  3. Wilco - Schmilco & Teenage Fanclub - Here & Angel Olsen - My Woman

Some really good albums out this month but the Nick Cave album overshadows the others by some margin.

No joint positions please. Pick a number 3 if possible.

Ok, Wilco then

So far (reserving the right to change my mind…)

  1. Jóhann Jóhannsson - Orphée
  2. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Skeleton Tree
  3. Petrels - Jörð

…with a close but no cigar to Scott Walker - The Childhood of a Leader and christian fitness - this taco is not correct.
You know it’s a good month for music when a Scott Walker album doesn’t make the top 3, and it’s not even over yet - Bon Iver, Opeth, Jenny Hval and S U R V I V E are out tomorrow.

Also want to pick up Biosphere - Departed Glories, Divine Comedy - Foreverland.

Bloody hell. I didn’t even realise Wovenhand had a new album out. His last was one of the best of 2014 for me. I’ve got a ticket for the gig in a few weeks too. Thanks for the heads up.

Can I just vote for Carly Rae again?

The Nicolas Jaar album is not out yet

it’s been available to stream for the past week, and it is out now.

Christian Fitness - This Taco Is Not Correct
Local Natives - Sunlit Youth
Preoccupations - s/t

Would have them all joint first if I could.

Honourables to Every Time I Die and Helms Alee. Still to listen to Oathbreaker but doubt anything could get into that top three. Maybe the best month for releases this year.
