DiS Users' September 2021 Album Of The Month - THE RESULTS

What the hell, let’s add Sleigh Bells — Texis at No.4.

  1. Low - HEY WHAT
  2. Manic Street Preachers - The Ultra Vivid Lament
  3. Kinkajous - Being Waves
  4. We Were Promised Jetpacks - Enjoy The View

The Manics were a big surprise, but also a shout out to whoever mentioned the Kinkajous album on a new releases thread and mentioned it was FFO Floating Points’ Elaenia. Good call!

That Amyl & The Sniffers album is an absolute blast. Deserves higher than fourth, but strong competition this month.

  1. Martina Topley-Bird - Forever I Wait
  2. Emel - Everywhere We Looked Was Burning (Live)
  3. Roxanne de Bastion - You & Me, We Are The Same
  4. Odd Beholder - Sunny Bay
  5. Liz Lawrence - The Avalanche

The Martina Topley-Bird album has really stayed with me and bears repeat listening - there’s a real haunting claustrophobic quality to it. Emel was a new artist to me and this album was so good, I immediately went back into the whole back catalogue. A Tunisian, one of Emel’s songs became an anthem of the Arab Spring. One for fans of Bjork, I think. Then some excellent art-pop from Roxanne de Bastion and Liz Lawrence and dream-pop from Odd Beholder. Good work as ever to contributors to the weekly new release threads which surface all these great records.

Honourable mentions to Saint Etienne, Ben Böhmer and Amyl & The Sniffers. Haven’t been feeling the Low album but it’s doing so well here I might have to persevere.

Thought it was a good month for EPs and I could easily have picked a strong top 5 with Cloud of I, Sans Soucis, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith & Emile Mosseri, Cucina Povera and Jane Weaver.
