VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!
Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.
Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.
My choices: A joint top for me this month but I’ll give the top pick to Ash.
1. Ash - Race The Night
2. Nation Of Language - Strange Disciple
3. Maija Sofia - True Love
4. The Pretenders - Relentless
5. yeule - softscars
Ash provided the biggest surprise this month with a very fun big rock no nonsense album with one track having with a not needed OTT guitar solo that oddly fitted in really well. Nothing new about them here or the album at all but it’s just great fun.
The new one by Nation Of Language is more of the same. This third album of theirs is the expected brilliant synth and some great hooks. It might just lack the absolute big bangers like The Wall & I and This Fractured Mind they have on their previous two albums. Their final track on the album I Will Never Learn for me is the grandest sounding song they have on it. With this new album they have a stunning catalogue of work and really looking forward to putting them on shuffle for hours in the next weeks, months and longer. They were on top form live last night.
In any other month Nation Of Language would be my top pick but the Ash album is just fun and as they were the nicest bunch at the live and signing thing last week and enthusiastically signed my CD that I wanted made out to a mate of mine, I’ll give the top pick to the nicest guys in rock.
The Maija Sofia album is beautiful storytelling sung brilliantly. Loved her instore earlier this month and bought a ticket for a gig of her’s immediately after that show was over. Always good to see someone that likes Strawberry Switchblade or at least Since Yesterday.
Chrissie Hynde doesn’t stop and the aptly title Relentless by The Pretenders is a slightly more darker rock album than the brilliant pop rock Hate For Sale from summer 2020. Saw them earlier in the year and they remain a phenomenal live act. Glad Hynde doesn’t seem to want to stop performing and the albums she’s putting out aren’t just fillers, some tracks on these last two album are as strong as any on their Greatest Hits/Best Ofs.
I’ve seen my top four all live this year but haven’t seen yeule. Tempted for her ticket later this year.
Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked. Not sure what’s out tomorrow.
Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 8th October and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.
Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.
