First game of the year for the beloved football team affiliated to this website. Now that the festive period is over, everyone will be keen to get some exercise and run around on those lovely red and white shirts with the famous anchor on the front. We’ve played this lot most recently in October last year, and all we have to do is improve on the result of that match.

In other news, we also will have a match coming up against Perfidious Albion, and a truly special one against the National. More news to follow soon.

As always with international friendlies, we’ll have a proper FA referee, so bring your shinpads and practice those throw-ins.

The usual blurb:

  • we play on a full-sized astro-turf pitch
  • changing rooms with shower and toilet facilities are available
  • 5 min walk from Caledonian Road tube station (Piccadilly line)
  • arrive at 11:30 AM for warm-up, tactics discussion, pre-match fags, team pictures, etc.
  • kick-off at 12 PM sharp
  • full 2 x 45 minutes and injury time + 15 min break
  • normal FA rules, but with rolling subs
  • shirt colour RED
  • final team will be announced on the Thursday before the game
  • 7 pounds per player will be collected on the day
  • post-match analysis in the nearby Hemingford Arms pub

You know the drill by now: sign up below if you want to be considered for selection. Applications from specialists (i.e. goalkeepers) will be viewed favourably.

Aye, g’wan then (fitness depending)

#3

OUT

Good luck guys!

#4

Will is IN

#5

Could be in for this… Would be happy to don the gloves.

Been three years since I played any sort of football at all. About 8 since I played in goal.

#6

Was also going to make a joke about how you’d presumably want the £7 in old pound coins to make it easier to roll the subs but then I decided against it because it’s a shit joke.

#7

Good goalkeeping is all about good decision-making, so you’ve passed the first test.

#8

I have two goalkeeping modes. Rene Higuita or Rene Artois. Both notoriously poor decision makers at key times.

#9

Not INjured any more, I’m up for this

#10

Can’t come to this as I’ll be in Blackpool BUT thought this would be the place to ask if you are coming to this year’s wv-hedw tournoi

#11

I haven’t heard anything but personally I would love to

#12

I am in

#13

Byron House FC could always use a physical presence up top for our title defence

#14

I’d be in if DiS isn’t fielding a team ¯_(ツ)_/¯

#15

I’d also be keen for this again, horror-leg-break-recovery-dependent. What are the dates this year?

#16

19th-20th May I believe

#17

Not decided yet id there will be a DiS FC team

Me too

Correct

As I’ll be away from the start of February until the end of April, we’ll need someone to step up and help out with organising the DiS team, if we want to go …

#18

How far away from playing again are you?

#19

I can definitely and would love to help but would also appreciate another pair of hands as I’m also away a lot with work between now and end of March

#20

Hoping to be back at the middle/end of March: got a scan in a week and a bit which will hopefully give me the all clear to start running again, then it’ll just be about getting match fit. Would be happy to help organise a team if I have some time free.
