I hadn’t really thought of that, but I think you’re right. The use of female guest vocalists by male bands was definitely a theme this year but American Football and Vampire Weekend managed it more convincingly than The National.

I liked I am the Ambulance but I actually though Nuance the musical was very good probably my second favorite, liked how it had a uniqness to it. I thought the addition of the strings really added something to the songs.

There’s a really good 45 minute long album in there somewhere but it is miles too long. More good songs than The National album though.

Don’t get me wrong it was decent but it didn’t keep me coming back and I would be hard pushed to pick out a single track as memorable… Nuance was similar for me last year but it had some cracking stand outs

Slap Bass Hunks and Taco are still my faves

Didn’t gel with Sharon Van Etten’s as much as I thought I would - but I had high expectations; the new Duster got great reviews but 4 listens in and it hasn’t really stuck;

Unlike most though it seems I liked The National (took a few listens) whilst recognising its not near their peak; and really dug the Deerhunter one.
