Hey folks,
It’s release day!
I wrote a long wall of text about this release on the Bandcamp page so I won’t repeat all of it. But I just want to talk about some of the more important bits. CW: death and coronavirus
The EP as a whole is supposed to be a snapshot of early April when we first went into lockdown in the UK. But the heart of the release is the final track “To Those We Should Have Saved”. It’s meant to encapsulate how I felt at the time (and more or less how I feel now) - grief, rage and numb shock at the death toll in the UK. I think we’re all in agreement on this forum that at least a significant proportion of deaths were avoidable had the government acted quicker, had the subsequent management of lockdown not been so shambolic, and had austerity not laid the groundwork for this all. I’m specifically addressing those who’ve died from Covid-19, but that’s not to forget those who’ve suffered (and died) from poverty, depression, homelessness and other illnesses during this time. I guess if there’s anything I’m trying to say with this EP is that we mustn’t forget all of this, and in the long term we mustn’t let those responsible avoid accountability.
I’m donating all of the money I make from this to Marie Curie (kindly suggested by @iamwiggy when I was stuck and not sure who to donate to, so thanks!) to support their work assisting the terminally ill (including those ill with Covid-19) and those around them. Bandcamp are doing a no-fee day today so it’s as good a day as any to pick up the EP and donate to a good cause.
It’s 3 drone-y, noisy and experimental tracks. A bit different to what I’ve done before. Thanks for checking it out and hope you enjoy it
