Let’s all go down the Wellington for a pint!!

This film feels like it was made in 1997

I like it but didn’t vote for it. The one in Wells where Adam Buxton gets decapitated (sort of) is better

Earls Court, every February in the early-mid 90s

I think Edgar Wright is, by some distance, my least favourite working filmmaker.

Only been up for half an hour so a personal recap:

Howl’s Moving Castle: should have voted for this one. Just a perfect adaptation of a delightful book that elevates it in a different artform. Joe Hisaishi’s score is incredible.

Interstellar: An extremely emotional film from a director long accused of being emotionless. But it made some men feel too much, and therefore it’s bad. Stupid men.
32 points.

Lost In Translation: Loved this when it came out. Don’t think I could watch it now. Didn’t vote for it and wouldn’t have.

Moon: First on the list for a smashed it out the park first time director whose promise has not been lived up to subsequently. It’s really fucking good though, considering it’s literally just Sam Rockwell and a voice actor.
28 points.

Inglourious Basterds: It’s ok. It’s better than Tarantino’s other post Kill Bill work. Don’t want to see it again. Didn’t vote for it.

Donnie Darko: Coulda shoulda woulda. Haven’t seen it in many years but I adored it back in the day. Another brilliant debut from a director who has done nothing of note since. Immensely inventive and affecting film. The soundtrack is banging.*

Dune Part Two: I prefer the first part, but this is a very, very worthy continuation. Big, loud, very Villeneuve-y. Total cinema.
40 points.

Toy Story 3: Another very worthy continuation. Never got particularly emotional at the ending though, because I knew with all certainty that they were getting out. Toy Story 4, on the other hand, destroyed me. Didn’t vote.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford: A good film I’ve seen once. I bought it on DVD and never watched it. Always my go-to for film related pun threads. Didn’t vote.

The Grand Budapest Hotel: Quite like this, but only seen it the once, which is probably enough. Kind of Wes Anderson distilled, innit. Didn’t vote.

The Raid: It’s good. I like it a lot. It’s not DREDD, though. Even though it’s the same story. Didn’t vote (did vote for DREDD).

Thanks, you can all go now.

*still haunts me to this day:

He’s shit but weirdly think he’ll do a good job with the running man

Not a particular comment on either film but I don’t really understand the electorate who manages to give loads of points to both this, and Lydia Tar The Controversial Conductor

different people vote, that’s the thing

It isn’t, it was released in 2000

He’ll get distracted by showing off how much he can move his camera and by adding absolutely excruciating needle drops every other scene and then ā€œdroppingā€ a playlist of songs that inspired the film or whatever and my head will fall off with embarrassment
