Literally only heard their hits (which are amazing). Never even listened to Village Green etc album.
Bet they’ve released loads of absolute shite.

I would like to know the answer to this, too
There is a lot of ‘em. I think as with loads of bands the later you get the more iffy you get.
Muswell hillbillies and everybody’s in showbiz are prob my faves. Lots of great songs despite not many ‘hits’
I haven’t listened to many of their albums, but yes they have a whole lot of dross from the 70s and 80s
Village Green is great though
The very definition of a Best Of band imo.
they’ve only got two good songs so yeah i reckon most of their albums must be shite
Nah, at their height they were right up there as an album band, but in answer to the OP, they did release a load of weaker albums.
I’ll level with you, I’ve never listened to any actual Kinks albums.
A pal gave me a usb stick at uni with every album they did on it. I can’t remember which ones were good.
That’s on you
I just like to join in the discussion.
The big issue with the Kinks is that up until Something Else in 67, the recording quality of their albums is absolutely abysmal. It’s no wonder Ray Davies takes the piss out of George Martin’s production of Revolver in that review of it he wrote, was probably jealous of how good the production was
That admirable.
Yeah
Dreadful band, would imagine every single album is terrible
I would definitely recommend everybody’s in show biz, just has a ‘vibe’ to it. The live tracks bolted to it are utter shite, but the first 10 tracks are a good relaxed time
no, most of what they did up until + including Muswell Hillbillies is great.
people just rarely feel the need to listen beyond the singles because the singles are all so good, but they’re not one of those bands with lots of mediocre filler at all.
Early albums are confusing as they do that 60s thing of being singles regurgitated for different markets but the run of
Kink Kontroversy
Face to Face
Something Else
Village Green
Arthur
Muswell
is amazing. After that I think they get hard work and then bizarrely reinvented themselves as a sort of mor stadium rock band but there are some gems.
The point about production made by @waveyswirley is spot on. They just sound like they stuck them in a room and pressed record on a tape recorder but it more kind of highlights one reason why The Beatles were so successful. Obviously all subjective etc and so on but one of the few 60s bands I can still be bothered with. It’s easy enough to listen past the rudimentary production. Arthur is a personal favourite but the songwriting across those albums I mentioned is impeccable.
I know no one wanted that spiel so yeah…blah blah etc.
