yeah. I got this horrendous bus journey into this town that’s the last stop on the road into central borneo before it just becomes rain forest. you can fly so we looked into flights for the return journey - 40 min flight on some tiny little thing, rather than a 10 hour bus journey with chickens and 3 people per seat on a bumpy dirt track. then we were watching the national news and there was something about a plane crash. we asked our hosts if this happened a lot, and they were like “nah not really only once or twice a month”.

Not the worst country for airplane crashes by any stretch

data is probably fucked because I can’t imagine there being many planes going over indonesia at a time when air travel wasn’t particularly popular, but more dangerous (1940s, 50s, 60s etc).

KLM has been flying there since 1924

you’d agree that the volume of air traffic in countries like the US and France during that period might skew the data somewhat, however?
