Most wasabi we get in the UK isn’t really wasabi, it’s just dyed horseradish or mustard. It’ll last for ages with no ill affect.
Really wasabi basically goes off in minutes, it needs to be super fresh.

Mostly I miss sniffing the solvents.
I bought some rubber cement the other day (it’s basically latex dissolved in solvents- it’s repositionable glue). There were two brands on offer, one german, one american. The german one just said “careful: solvents” whereas the american one was covered in signs warning you that it might spontaneously explode and was desperately hazardous for children. They had exactly the same ingredients. I would have preferred the exploding american one all things considered, but it was both more expensive and a smaller pot.
