I have five, four that I’m really pleased with and got in the last few years. First one I got when I was about twenty and want to get covered up. Terrible early 2000s indie cliché.

radiohead bear?

I once saw someone with the in/casino/out satellite dishes tattooed on their arm, and this has stuck with me for some reason.

wasn’t you, was it?

Could be! Is it…

  • Radiohead bear
  • Modest Mouse balloon
  • Unknown Pleasures sound waves
  • A fourth, equally awful thing

I like the new wave of tattoos that I see these days, I must admit. I’m not sure what the style is called - that kind of Sailor Jerry meets old fashioned Americana. Tattoo technology seems to have changed loads - the colours seem so rich now, and the level of detail seems amazing.

I have none though. Sort of gone beyond parody, really. Look cool on some greaser type, but hilarious on some fella working in Urban Outfitters.

One. Didn’t plan on it. Just liked the design when I went to the parlour with my then girlfriend. Got it 20 years ago and don’t regret it.

Probably helps that it is a turtle rather than a band/record label/pot noodle flavour that I could go off. I’ll always like turtles. (Unlike those terrapin wankers).

If you guessed poorly drawn Modest Mouse balloon, congratulations.

You had this done at Kids Love Ink in Deptford right? (Remembering from a previous thread). And they were good? It’s my closest place. Been thinking of something for ages now, but still not sure if I’ll go through with it or not.

Yep. I can’t compare it with other places as I only have one tattoo, but most of my friends get theirs there and I was really pleased with how mine came out. I designed it myself but they took the time to suggest little modifications here and there which was great. Plus free tote bag and they play pop punk.

A 2D tattoo? How behind the times. These days you need it in glorious 3D and to force anyone who wants to view it to wear the necessary specs.

Look, you told them to cover up your DiS Anchor and I reckon they did the best they could under the circumstances…

involuntary grammar pedantry shudder

(Actually sounds like the coolest tattoo option, apart from possibly nixing the use of that date for bank access type stuff.)
