I get fairly frequent requests to FB friends from contractors and/ or people who work overseas and I only know from e-mail/ conference calls

If I genuinely don’t have a clue who they are (which happens a fair bit) then I ignore it, if it’s someone I interact it i’ll accept it. But more fool them cos I never post anything on FB

I do look at my FB feed and anyone being tedious will get hidden ASAP

Generally speaking, because when you’re a young adult your colleagues are your friends, whereas when you’re an older adult they’re just colleagues.

probably the opposite for me. But that may be down to my personal circs. I’ve made more close friends in work in the last 10 years than previously. (I’m 43)

So that you can have a crap day, and then post up a “I can’t believe what a bunch of fuckwits my colleagues are” without offending anyone, or even having to deal with the fallback when you’re next in the office

But it’s not necessarily about ranting about work, it could be ranting about anything that you don’t want to discuss with colleagues.

A couple. I need to have my boss on FB so I can access the company’s paid adverts account (which run through his account), and get on well with some of the others. They’ve all added me though - I think most of my colleagues would be freaked out by my weird FB header photos, so I never add anyone myself.

Quite surprised none of you seem to make friends with your colleagues.

yeah. honestly don´t care - I don´t use fb or instagram very often (maybe a post a month or something?), and not accepting their requests might hurt their feelings.

it’s probably worth mentioning that i work in one of the most pervasively negative working environments i’ve ever experienced, people here don’t even acknowledge each other in the kitchen so this has probably decreased the likelihood of me trying to add them on facebook

Most of my colleagues are more than ten years younger than me. We have some things in common (we all hate working here), but not that much.

I guess the other thing is that around 30s people start having families of their own and that tends to dwindle the socialising a bit or at least change the social groupings for them.

I don’t have any of my current team on there but do have a lot of former colleagues. I don’t have an issue with it as i don’t now do anything that could end up on facebook that i would mind work knowing about (much too boring).

I don’t have enough friends so am happy to make friends with anyone from work who isn’t a knob

As soon as one of the people at my last job sent me a friend request, I panicked and deleted my Facebook account altogether.

I live 40 miles away from where I work. Also, most of my colleagues are accountants, or really into football, or both.
