Watched Summer Of ‘84 last night. An obvious nostalgia cash in post Stranger Things but was a lot of fun and I really liked the ending. Some good little Easter eggs like the conspiracy theorist character standing in front of a Polybius arcade game. Would probably watch again.

Get Duked was so dated, I was amazed it came out recently and not 2006

Vampires Vs The Bronx on Netflix is an enjoyable silly kids vs vampires (and gentrification) flick in the same vein as Fright Night or the Lost Boys. Big fan.

‘Images’ last night. Susannah York in peak form as a wife who is seriously losing the plot. Robert Altman at the reins does sterling work. 8/10
‘The Stuff’ I thought I may have seen this before, but no. Larry Cohen has fun but doesn’t scare, the quality of the film ranged from hd to vhs, some abysmal special effects, some great. Weird. 7/10

Planning to watch The Woman in Black in a couple of weeks. Really excited for this, been wanting to see it properly for years. Only other one I’ve seen here is Baskin which I remember being mental, in the best way possible.

Are there any fans here of the Hypnogoria podcast?

I can’t believe that I only recently discovered this. It’s so good. Been binge-listening for several weeks now and am completely in love with it.

Tonight we watched Uncle Peckerhead - a DIY punk band go on tour and accidentally hire a flesh eating demon as their roadie. I think between this and Green Room my experience of DIY touring is pretty much nailed on. Some great scenes of absolute carnage and a banging soundtrack - also some excellent t shirts. Probably my favourite movie so far this spooktober.

I quite enjoyed this too, I actually preferred it when it went into full on slasher mode.

Following this up with the only thing I could think of (and had to hand) that was stupid and deranged enough to match it; Army Of Darkness.

One of my most hated ever films!

Ah I thought it got a bit samey when they could have explored the setting a bit more as there was a couple of tense scenes the hand in the box, the coffins

Still good though

Evil Dead 2 might be my favourite horror film, it’s so over the top and silly. Army Of Darkness doesn’t even come close but Bruce Campbell’s performance is ludicrous.

Monster Party was just a series of poorly done homages to other horror films. Definitely could’ve been so much fun with better direction

After one of the greatest finales* of any TV series, Dexter returns…

I found it unbearably smug, just didnt work for me on any level

Almost watched this last night but instead opted for…

The Rental - four 30 something friends go for a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods idyllic cliff top retreat and have to deal with their own dysfunctional relationships plus potentially…more. This has high production values throughout but, my word, does it feel like it’s covering old ground. Strong cast of Dan Stevens, Sheila Vand and Alison Brie should all probably be doing better stuff (although this is written and directed by Brie’s husband Dave Franco). Not bad, just meh. That said, I see it was well received so  5/10

Tonight’s double bill theme was…uhh movies with ‘og’ in the title.

Dog Soldiers - can’t believe I’ve never watched this before! Ludicrous soldiers vs werewolves mayhem set in the Scottish highlands. My only real criticism is that the amount of time the werewolves are in full view is high relative to the quality of the costumes.

The Fog - considering its age and the inconsistent nature of John Carpenters movies, this has held up remarkably well. A tightly plotted, camp fire story nautical ghost tale. Great sense of creeping dread - although is sort of Jaws with ghosts?

Thanks to the Fog I have a really strong desire to live in a lighthouse and run a radio station.
