Its quite good, obviously shot on a shoestring budget but its only 70 minutes or so. Not seen it for a while but its decent enough

Absolutely, really enjoyed it.

Watched The Nest of the Cuckoo Birds and The Orgy of The Dead over the past two nights. Both on Mubi and part of a collection restored by Nicolas Winding Refn (see link below).

Cuckoo Birds despite clearly being made on a shoestring was really eery and had a very dreamlike atmosphere. The murders scenes were really unusual and the score was the sort of like something Angelo Badalamenti conjures up.

The Orgy of The Dead on the other hand was total nonsense. Like a mix between Scooby Doo and those intros to Bond films but only this went on for 1hr30mins.

Possessor is great.

Nice, didn’t realise that collection was still up

Night Tide is a great film, I’d really recommend that if you havent’t seen it. Shanty Tramp isn’t a horror but i loved that too

Sweet! Nope both are new to me so will give them a go plus it’ll be cool to see Dennis Hopper’s first screen appearance. Also intrigued by The Burning Hell and Wild Guitar. Did you watch any others from that collection?

It’s dead handy you can know view the whole library on the TV app, plenty to trawl through.

Yeah its a really strange but effective watch, would recommend it!

I watched Satan In High Heels, that was pretty good but nothing too special.

Shanty Tramp really stayed with me for some reason, that would be my pick of the next to watch

Watched this last night and realised within about 10 seconds that I’d seen it before. Watched it again anyway - still good :+1:

Watched this last night also, having watched the 2010 John Hurt version a few years back. Genuinely skin crawling tension - amazing stuff. Loved all the static low down camera shots throughout. Don’t know when TV started being shot in colour as a matter of course, but this definitely benefitted from being in B&W. Hats off to Michael Hordern as the lead - his bumbling middle-aged portrayal of the professor really brings it own thing. Also, the dream bit on the beach :grimacing:

Two episodes in to season 5 and am really digging it. It’s got a cool missing person hook to get you in to the narrative and they seem to be going for a tighter, more focussed narrative this time around, rather than the scattershot approach that sometimes made the earlier seasons tricky to follow…

^Very true

I should watch the 2010 version. Really unique chill that gave me.

I might have to rewatch myself. I remember enjoying it (and John Hurt is a treat in anything :frowning: ) but I also recall it being rather different to the Omnibus version…

I’ve never seen it. I have seen al the older ones on that DVD set now and I would say the original is the best within that set. Can’t see the remake bettering it but imagining I’ll enjoy it.

copied from the regular film thread

a pleasant surprise after I’d dialled my expectations right down

Haunt on Amazon Prime is surprisingly good fun

Over the weekend I’ve watched:

Shanty Tramp - @TKC I can completely see why this lingered with you! Wow. It was necessarily a horror but it was certainly chilling and there was a real seediness to it that was undeniable. Daniel’s whole storyline was truly tragic and just sickening really and although Emily was a bit of a monster, you felt for her too (in some ways). This was by far the best of three flicks restored by Winding Refn so far.

Krampus - Fantastic festive horror with some really decent scares. Great cast too with Adam Scott, Toni Collette and Allison Tolman. Didn’t really like the animated bits but that’s a minor quibble.

Office Uprising - Fairly watchable recent (ish) zombie movie, kinda Office Space meets Shaun of the Dead but without as many laughs. Decent Friday night popcorn film. Silly is the best kind of way.

Yeah was definitely worth seeking out! Like the other films above, it had a really cool soundtrack and atmosphere that sunk into your psyche. Really sad film overall but one I’ll be recommending for sure. Cheers for pointing me in its direction!
