Do you own any records with the wrong music pressed on it?

This Taylor Swift fan got a compilation with Cabaret Voltaire

closest I’ve got is a CD that was free with X-ray magazine, there was a Stellastarr* track listed as

Somewhere Across Forever?

and it was actually another track by the same band

Somewhere Across Forever doesn’t have a question mark at the end so I reckon whoever put it together put the question mark to indicate uncertainty, then no one checked what track it actually was

I had a CD copy of Television’s Marquee Moon that had the wrong music, but I can’t remember what it was.

My copy of Illinois (vinyl) has about a second of the second track off The Avalanche on it. As well as the title track of The Avalanche.

Had a copy of an Elbow single where instead of the bside ‘McGregor’ it had ‘Shame and Scandal’ by Madness.
Got a few quid for it on eBay.

Have had Mogwai and The Smile with the same side of music on both sides of an LP but the labels sent a replacement copy.

No but always thought this one was funny

Iron Monkey released a boxed set of their first two albums and, because everything they did ended up completely fucked up, the wrong label was printed on each disc so Our Problem is labelled as S/T and vice versa.

I once bought a Red House Painters CD in Tokyo, but when I listened to it later, the music on it was actually Madonna’s ‘Erotica’. That was an odd couple of minutes. I then had to figure out how to take the CD back and get the guy to give me a refund when he was not an English speaker.

In the end I took my discman in with me, pointed to the cover and then motioned for him to put on my headphones. He looked very confused, and then looked at me very surprised and said ‘Madonna?’. I nodded and pointed at the CD cover again and he immediately gave me a refund sounding very apologetic (I felt bad, it wasn’t his fault).

Not the wrong pressing, but got a copy of one of Ginger Wildheart’s Mutation projects and the volume is really low on the cd, so you have to turn it up to double the volume so you can hear it properly.

Points at Red House Painters album cover, sings:

“I cannot translaaaaate,
Japanese to Engliiiiiish
Or English to Japaneeeeeese”

I once bought a cd off the band The Unit Ama, and I put it in the disk drive and pressed play and Youthmovies “Hurrah, Another Year…” started playing. Open and closed the cd tray, same result.

I emailed the guy, thinking there was some sort of pressing error.

Turns out I’d put one cd on top of the other and the cd tray just stoically accepted it and played the one at the bottom.

Had to email him again and tell him the cd was fine. Didn’t feel too good.

In the days before eBay and the ‘value’ of things were determined by Record Collector magazine I recall there being lots of mis-pressings at inflated prices in the classifieds at the back. Looks like that’s still occurring then.

I literally listened to this on my ipod this morning and thought “this isn’t ‘Somewhere Across Forever’”! I haven’t been able to figure out what song it actually is (not on the album).

Just figured it out…it is ‘School Ya’ from the ‘Somewhere Across Forever’ EP/Single…good song actually!
