Oh gosh, K’s Choice. I’d forgotten all about them. Think I must have Paradise In Me about here somewhere.
I’ve still got the CD single of Not An Addict somewhere
Glastonbury 1998. It rained and I had a miserable time but did enjoy seeing James, Kenickie, Idlewild and Johnny Vegas. Missed everything else I wanted to see.
Went back in 1999 and also had a largely miserable time, only in the sunshine.
Leeds 2000, post GCSEs. That first day on the main stage was one of the best music experiences of my life to date. I remember the hype around ATDI being intense that weekend and bring really proud of myself for making it to the front of the crowd for their gig.
First and only time I’ve crowdsurfed (during limp bizkit), drank warm pissy Carling all weekend, watched the site burn to the ground on the last night.
Don’t know what my essential items were, probably wore the same clothes all weekend and wasn’t yet on the weed.
Phoenix Festival 1994, I would have been 17
Me and mate primarily went for that “last-ever” Wonder Stuff show. We spent too much time in the Comedy tent and queuing for acts to sign our programmes. There was also an arcade there, which meant my mate spent loads of time pumping pound coins into Sunset Riders.
But I do remember seeing Carter, The Fall, Neds, Killing Joke, The Posies, Whiteout (not the noisy ones), Therapy?, Crash Test Dummies, Inspiral Carpets and Half Man Half Biscuit.
Biggest mistake though was reading the T&Cs on the ticket and thinking we couldn’t take any booze with us. Not realising that is just meant we couldn’t take it into the main arena.
Sorted that later that same summer when we hit up Reading and took a crate of Special Brew. Minds were lost
Should have taken a few months off that before you had to start doing it again at uni
Leeds 99 for me, post A-levels.
Remember seeing:
Blur
Elastica
JSBX
Stereolab
The Fall
Bis
Add N to X
Clinic
Freddy Fresh
Atari Teenage Riot
Sleater Kinner
Idlewild
Snuff
Symposium
Delgados
Arab Strap
Les Rhythmes Digitales
Flaming Lips
Cornelius
Not bad. Not bad at all.
Also went to Reading 1999 post GSCE results. Saw…
Flaming Lips
Sparklehorse
Pavement
Blur
Beth Orton
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Sebadoh
The Donnas
Dandy Warhols
Guided By Voices
Clinic
Paradise Motel
Ten Benson
Hefner
Luscious Jackson
The Charlatans
Catatonia
Fun Lovin Criminals
A bit of RHCP after Flaming Lips finished
Pretty great line-up really. Would’ve loved to have seen Delgados and Cornelius at that (think the latter clashed with Sparklehorse), and also Sleater Kinney and Smog, but hadn’t heard them at the time.
One of the best bits was the vending machine on the platform at Clapham Junction giving out four chocolate bars instead of one on the way home.
Reading 2000. Really shoddy preparation, one mate got a lift from family, others got the train, one mate could drive, we were struggling to meet up in the days without us all having phones. First night it rained and woke up to a bog. I do remember RATM, the crowd was huge. Slipknot were terrifying as a kid not realising fully it was all an act. Daphne and Celeste getting bottled off. Foo Fighters between the Bluetones and Primal Scream. Get Up Kids, Trail of Dead and QOTSA in the tent. Looking at the listing now, At the Drive in? I don’t remember seeing that but I must have surely. They were quite hyped, I wonder if I couldn’t even get near. Elliott Smith - I had no idea who he was at the time so that’s a shame. I was a big Oasis fan 2-3 years prior but had totally moved on, didn’t even bother hanging around. Lots of fun and games shouting Bollocks in the field, drinking, making fires, general mayhem.
I had a lie down at the back of the tent for Elliott Smith at Reading 2000, due to being knackered and a bit too stoned by that point. Sounded good, but regretted not standing up and taking it in properly. Primal Scream were great at that one. Felt sorry for Daphne and Celeste.
This poster remains extremely triggering for me (because I didn’t go) ![]()
I went to this. Essential supplies included penicillin cause i had tonsilitis.
I’m sure james brown was on too.
Glastonbury 1985, I was still in the 4th Year at senior school. Saw New Model Army, The Pogues, King (lots of mud thrown at him, not by me mind). Ian Dury & The Blockheads, The Style Council, The Men They Couldn’t Hang, Green On Red, Echo & The Bunnymen, Billy Bragg… and more but I forget, it was a long time ago.
what festival was this?
Bude Surf and Rock, 1997
Terrorvision
Rootjoose
Loads of local bands…
Best day of my life
Connect Festival, 2007
