I listened to this a LOT but it’s more mid 90’s I think.

Wow that cover brings back memories, my brother had all of them.

The desert grows three miles a year…

Also some fantastically awful liner notes written by Gary Crowley.

I had this one too! Never worked out why Soho was on it though…

Hippychick was a decent record. Probably got some indie points from having the Smiths sample on it.

Happy Daze was a great album.

Hippychick = CHOON.

Similar memories - and I picked up this ‘Sharks Patrol’ cd second hand a few years ago…I have a couple of the Indie Top 20 comps - a strong, well curated series…I had volume 12 on tape, which i repurchased on cd- a rum mix of shoegaze, indie rock and, erm, the acceptable face of baggy… has some great tracks on it such as Spirea X’s Chlorine Dream and Jack by Moose. Also volume 20 on vinyl…Lo-fi by Stereolab, Changes by Sugar, Trigger cut by Pavement etc…

Good that someone has blogged on this allowing folk to check-out a good combinations of forgotten gems and vintage indie classics.

Fond memories of this too

good shout…I found volume 2 a few years ago…a couple of pretty obscure indie bands (Five-Thirty; The Real People) rubbing shoulders with more esablished greats like Dino Jr…that great Paris Angels cover of the Perfume track ‘All on You’ too

actually looking at the blog its volume 16 with Stereolab, Sugar etc…, I concur, the blog is very well scribed…even if course I disagree with some of the judgements… one for bookmarking and returning to

This was so my era. 1000 Yard Stare is another band like those. Kind of a big deal at the time, but bit of a niche interest now.

I’m confused. The Paris Angels song is called ‘Perfume’, then it was re-issued as ‘All on You (Perfume)’. Nothing to do with the band Perfume.

It is the proper version of Big as well. Not the inferior version that they stuck on their debut album.

I saw Soho supporting Jesus Jones. That was SOME GIG

Yes! I have that exact one!

Jesus Jones were a pretty big deal (at least in Indie circles) back then weren’t they?

Sorry …you’re quite right that was a result of typing quickly at end of hard week with ale to hand. What I had meant to say was a cover of the Revenge song. But I may be totally mistaken …I just remember hearing a version of that song first by Revenge on a similar indie comp but I may have misread the track listing or something…anyway… grand tune

Volume 15 might well be my favourite - this is my peak indie period faithfully represented here

Actually this was the one I played to death. Pretty much perfection until Babes In Toyland…
