We’re just inviting the in-laws over for drinks. Might head into Leeds for lunch and a couple of afternoon beers but we’ll be steering well clear in the evening.

I never really do anything for New Year.

Once around 15 years ago went to a Silver Rocket night with a few friends, I think it was a Charlottefield gig and I think @1101010 was there.

Used to do a Chinese with family, then went to my friends Ben’s for a small get together.

but the last few years its just been my housemate and playing board games. Didn’t even stay up to midnight last year.

This year it’ll just be a continuation of our Dark Souls board game campaign, like any other night.

Going out-out for the first time on nye for about 7 years. Its by the seaside so sort of a mini holiday too so quite looking forward to it.

I prefer to go out on New Years Day, though. Less pressure and it always feels like “one last hurrah” before January gloom sets in.

Not a New Years fan at all but had a hotel voucher we wanted to spend so gonna go to Cambridge for 2 nights. Never been before despite it being 50 mins away?!

Any recommendations welcome! We just like food and drink. Don’t think we’ll do anything on NYE other than drink in our hotel room :joy:

No, it does not feel like NYE is in a few days, I agree.

Was planning to stay in with a few friends but now we have free tickets to see Pet Shop Boys so I’m doing that instead. Never had a good time going out on new years so really hoping this will break that spell.

I think the “pubs charging to get in” thing peaked a few years ago tbh. Think they realised they were in danger of killing the golden goose cos everyone couldn’t be arsed so were just staying in or having house parties instead. Only see places that are doing a proper night or event charging nowadays.

Think if you treat NYE like a normal night without the pressure, and just go somewhere you like to go usually with some people you like it’s a really fun night. Adding NYE to Work Christmas parties on the “I’m the only one on DiS who enjoys it list”

Going to a big house party at a pal of my TV’s place & I’m dreading it. Been trying to avoid socialising with this crowd for the best part of a year-and-a-half (they are simply not my kind of people) but I have been backed i to a corner

Dreading it

got a few house parties we could attend but don’t think either of us can be arsed at the moment. sure by lunchtime on NYE we’ll feel differently.

massively this. would always go to the hydra / e1 / corsica events on NYD, lovely crowds, wasn’t too busy, great mix of straight through crew (:flushed:), fresh faces and great tunes

Getting a train back home from London at 4pm. And that will definitely be cancelled.

If it’s not though I’ll try ordering a NYE za

Think I’m just going to go to the cinema in the afternoon.
Got a very nice bottle of sparkling wine in the fridge which I’ll probably crack open in the evening if I’m feeling it.

Had a real good regular NYE setup when we were in Edinburgh. One pub (closed at 10 but we stayed until 11:30 and helped clean up in exchange for extra service), go watch the fireworks, go to another pub until 2-3, get a cheap pizza on the way home. Loads of people we knew did this and it was a great night out.

Not entirely sure what I’m doing yet, but I’m in general much more of a fan of NYE than I am Christmas. Generally keep it fairly casual though and not put too much pressure on, I’d imagine we’ll go to a local, go watch some fireworks and then pile back into a gaff as is usual tradition

oh and then get to start the new year as I go on by attending… checks notes Millwall vs Rotherham?! That can’t be right.

I actually like January.

Not necessarily the whole “new year/beginnings” but like the fact that the whole period of late November to 31st December which is seems like a long long lead up to Christmas and NYE is finally over.

The shortest day is behind us and I tend to look forward to spring even in early January.
