Did it once when I was got in at like 6am. And there was no point going to bed.

Was in training most the day and nodded off a couple of times.

Find it difficult if I had less than 8hrs now so would probably last a couple of hours on coffee.

Work pretty flexibly so sometimes just rock up a 11 and no one has said anything yet.

Not quite the same but I’ve gone into work straight off an overnight transatlantic flight and it was rough. Didn’t know where I was far less what time it was.

:grinning::grinning::grinning:

time usually starts to really slow as we head into late morning, I find. by 1pm i’ll be half-convinced the clocks are actually running backwards. already getting the yawns and watery eyes. drinking water and pissing frequently. about to have the first cigarette of the day. vision remains unblurred as of 09.23.

Have had bad nights with baby but always a few hours sleep to make the day bearable - the only time I’ve done a proper no sleeper was flying back from the US on an overnighter, literally didn’t sleep at all, got to Heathrow about 7am, then got the tube into town and went to work. Thought I’d manage it, but I was a mess, literally nodding off at my desk, making incoherent replies, couldn’t do anything but the most basic task. Went out at lunch and napped in the park for twenty minutes (really unsatisfying, kept jerking awake every few minutes convinced someone was trying to rob me), then went back to work, and spectacularly threw up in the bogs - turned out I had some sort of tummy bug too. But at least it gave me an excuse to go home sick, though I’m sure my colleagues just thought I was an idiot who should’ve booked one more day of holiday (they were right!)

Do it a fair bit on very little sleep. Work 2 jobs during the week. One is on call shifts and can get called regularly and get about 2-3 hours sleep. Then go into my 9-5 office job. The days after the nights I get called are…not fun

Do it now and again. Used to do it loads, several times a week. it’s fine, just power through and try not to eat.

always amuses/annoys me how I’ll remember really specific but ultimately pointless details like that, yet won’t remember if I’ve locked the door or brushed my teeth or something actually important

The problem is with kids is that it can be relentless - when they’re teething you can have whole weeks when you’re only getting a couple of hours sleep, and by the end of it you’re a zombie

If i have less than about five hours kip i’d pull a sicky. My head would be up my arse to such an extent that it’d be in nobody’s best interests for me to go in. I need seven hours to function. If you go in work it just looks like you’ve been out on the piss all night, let’s be honest. Depends on what you do, though, if you have a passive data entry job or something you might be able to wing it, but anything where you could make mistakes or anything public-facing i’d prefer people to not come in.

I always struggle to sleep on a Sunday night (or a Monday night on a bank holiday weekend). Tried everything - get up at normal time on the days before, don’t booze on the Saturday (Sunday) night, don’t have brews, come offline early, but wide awake for hours and hours. Proper headfuck because in almost all jobs Monday’s your busiest day.

Yeah, the last four days have been rough. Getting her out of her nursery routine seems to make her cranky, plus she’s teething, plus we’re still unpacking after moving… had a decent night’s kip last night and barely any the night before, feeling pretty zombified today,

I can wing it, luckily

I have to drive to work, so definitely not

Yeah air traffic control doesn’t run itself

I have done it a fair amount and I would say it definitely ages you.

There’s also necessity. sometimes you’re working on something to a deadline, and nobody gets to go home to sleep, and you just have to get on with it. It’s not just in ‘big business’ that this happens either. Think about hospital work- some surgeries go on longer than planned and a surgical team will have to power through the night, and then pick up their shifts the next day.

used to quite a bit but not sure i can handle it now

Whatever you do, do not have a big lunch. Just graze lightly throughout the day. The early afternoon slump is usually caused by lunch.
