Drowned in Sound 2005 Listening Club - intro thread

Hi all,

I floated the idea of a 2005 listening club over in Sean’s recent best of 2004 thread, I thought I’d have a go at organising and running one. So, here’s how I’m proposing it would work:

  • submit me (preferably by PM, but in this thread is also fine) a list of albums you really like from 2005 - somewhere between five and ten please. You don’t need to put them in order but you can if you wish
  • I will tabulate all the responses
  • I’ll take the top 35 most-voted for albums and, to make sure it doesn’t just end up totally predictable, 15 random ones from the rest of the responses, and make a long list
  • I’ll then order them roughly based on when they came out in 2005 and - bingo - we have a a weekly listening club, with two weeks off at the end of the year for Christmas

How does that sound?

Here are some lists to get you inspired:

DiS (top 46 for some reason):

Pitchfork:

Stereogum:

Metacritic:

https://origin.www.metacritic.com/browse/albums/score/metascore/year/filtered?year_selected=2005

Resident Advisor best of 2005:

These are just some examples - please share any other lists here (particularly more genre press ones?)

Happy to take any feedback on how this should run or on any other general questions

Thanks to those who’ve already sent over lists.

And, hey, it’s friday afternoon! You’re probably not doing a whole lot of work! So it’s a totally good time to dip into some nostalgia and sort out your list.

Dalek - Absence is my only pick

Whoops. One too many, and not submitted by PM.

Just disqualify me.

Submitted here is absolutely fine! And don’t worry about the extra, it makes up for @jordan_229 posting only one (classic Jordo).
