Would be highly suspicious if anyone other than The Strokes got comeback of the year. Could maybe argue Bright Eyes, Flaming Lips, or Gorillaz, but the scale of the comeback and the length of time since last great album are way more impressive in the case of The Strokes.

I guess if you’re talking about singles rather than albums Lady Gaga coming out with her first decent song since 2011 and it being a stonker is also pretty impressive.

I can’t stand The Strokes.

It’s a scottish duo who have a new album coming in 2021

For real?
Feels like Justin and the lads were never away for long and were just shoddy.
Bright Eyes come back after almost a decade with a great album.

Depends what you mean by comeback. I’d say that a) The Strokes album is even better than Bright Eyes and b) 17 years between great albums (with bad ones in between) is a bigger comeback than 9 years of self-imposed exile with lots of similar sounding side projects in the meantime

Agree to disagree.
Good that we both like good things tho.
Must give the Strokes album a listen tbh, lost interest after LP3.

Real answer:

Best cover -

Or any of the covers AA Williams has been releasing lately.

Cover of the year for me is Heather Trost’s take on Harry Nilsson’s Jump Into the Fire. She’s got a 1960s pop/psych thing going on here.

If we’re talking about length if time away from the game Fiona Apple and The Chicks had very good comebacks too

yeah that’s a great cover

Ty Segall did a fantastic fuzzed up cover of the same song this year too (along with a few other Nilsson songs from the same album)
