Everything surrounding the women was soooo creepy and hard to watch :’( I dread to think what it’ll be like when ya torries and stacy’s get featured more heavily. But also this is just before the women divison got good in the 00’s sooooo silver lining? Hopefully?!??!?!

well the matches might get better but the whole PUPPIES thing sticks around for a while I think, sadly

finally finished it!!! Here’s my scatty as fuck (drunk) notes:

vengeance 2001

despite definitely watching this ppv, I do not remember Ric Flair here.

I also don’t remember these jobber teams, (Granted Test & Christian becomes the Un-Americans) but remember the break up of better teams being why I fucked off. Why is the worm so over? Do tags not matter? Bit of a „lol“ match.

Top promo from Regal OF COURSE.

LOVE that „pillock“ is over. There’s a small but audible crowd who are behind Regal. Quite liked the match but I guess maybe not as amazing as expected.

Kurt Angle giving Flair the big one, yaaaas

It’s fucking weird in 2017 seeing pre-broken matt hardy try and cut babyface promos

It’s kinda funny that the hardy boyz music just carries on for both entrances.
Hardyz match is kinda meh, it’s alright but they’re weirdly sloppy with each other for actual brothers.

The Rock’s a cunt as usual, WHY DOES HE LEAVE HIS OWN DRESSING ROOM?! Trish is way better than him.

Stacey Kiebler is still an absolute babe. Kane and The Big Show a decade ahead of the Authority… Jerry Lawler is such a creep tho.

OMG the „acting“ in the Lita apologising to Matt bit.

OK the build for Taker/RVD is awesome, I do not remember Taker turning heel here but maybe that’s because I’d clocked out on him already. State of RVD’s theme here. The match is a good laugh tho. BOOGER RED FS. RVD is the only “Invasion” lad on this PPV a month removed from the end of that storyline.

The state of Jerry during the women’s match (which is ok but obvs kinda bollocks)

LOL Rikishi is back!!! Face now tho right?

So while the rest of the show is kinda bollocks, fuck man, the main event build and storyline is SO GOOD.

Love the way Austin and Angle go at it impassioned after their year build, J.R with some excellent calling too highlighting Austin’s psychology. GREAT build to the finish. What a goddamn match.

I love Trish Stratus, she had to put up with so much shite in her time and she was always such a pro about it. While this is a bit of a weird scene it’s during Test’s year where he can’t be fired and is very much the heel in the situation so I can deal with it.

LOVED the small section of „Rocky Sucks“ chants and the total bewilderment oft he rest of the crowd. That table spot is pretty rough eh. Fair fucks to Jericho not only finishing the match but DOING THE SECOND MATCH IMMEDIATELY AFTER but he’s probably a wee bit concussed. The crowd are a bit knackered after Austin vs Angle. It’s quite funny J.R gives out about Jericho „Showboating“ when doing the People’s Elbow but is fine with The Rock doing it… which Jericho no sells anyway to cheat to win, lol. Bit annoying Jericho isn’t allowed to go over clean but he’s the heel so whatever

So the finale. I love Jericho’s reaction when Austin’s music pretty much immediately hits after Jericho’s won. It makes no kayfabe sense for the bell to ring after everyone’s had a go at interfering (JUST MAKE IT NO DQ) but whatever. Enjoyed Austin barely selling his own finisher, meanwhile, Jericho makes his move applied to him look painful (though he might just be trying to get Austin off him). It is genuinely awesome they put the title(s) on Jericho who was the clear “underdog” going in, but god the booking is so dumb. Just put your new champ over fs. Although I always liked Jericho and remember thinking at the time it was a cool moment, I also knew I was starting to lose interest (I tapped out at Wrestlemania X-8) but the booking got so repetitive and stupid while it tried to hang on to the attitude era.

Overall: pretty typical PPV of the time, bollocks undercard, GREAT main event. Although Angle/Austin is easily the match of the night, it’s cool that Jericho battled his way to a very unexpected win, his first (proper) title reign which would end disappointingly only a few months later… but that’s a tale for another time.

don’t think 5 minutes really counts as a run, pal

Interesting you thought Angle/AUastin was MOTN thought Rocky Vs Jericho was clear standout, so much energy in that damn match. Albert is a boy of mine so I enjoy him on the card regardless and Scotty is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the fed from this period

yeah, not a run but you know what I mean. I remembered the thing with hhh and the decision being overturned but thought the first time he actually won it was the undisputed title. completely forgot him and the rock had already swapped the wcw title back and forth by this time

They’re both great don’t get me wrong but Austin/Angle are really going for it. I do agree with whoever said that they’ve had better matches before, but I just love that this is the payoff of a 6 month angle between the two of them and they botherr to sell that pent up intensity

Rumble 2002 is a real treat

Just about to pop in on now. Pretty sure I’ve never seen this show as I distinctly remember 2002 being the year I checkede out of PPV’s for WWE because it wasn’t worth staying up for anymore. I’d still watch the odd raw here and there until around 2003/2004 which is when I fell off completely.

Just spotted a head cheese hat in the crowd of Rumble 2002

Right, I’m steaming in, apologies for the end:

Royal Rumble 2002

The opener is a bit bollocks, do not remember Spike & Tazz though I do like both of them and I suppose they make sense as small guys? Anyway, this match is just to do some spots and for King to perve on lovely Stacey Kiebler

Edge’s babyface promos are serious lol, and I am a massive Edge mark (he’d be in my boy stable at this point while he’s still eligible). This little period isn’t his best. like the booking of having two sets of knucks although these days Edge would probably kick out of that. Michael Cole is rubs.

Quite enjoyed the “would you want Earl Ebner in a midriff shirt?” line. Imagine not giving Jazz a jazz theme. Despite the usual shite commentary the “I’m not gonna touch that line” bit did make me laugh. Anyway this is actually quite a decent match, it helps that Jazz is an actually good wrestler, just with no character, but Trish is getting better too, and it’s quite fast paced stuff, just obviously booked to bollocks with a stupid ending because the women weren’t allowed to have nice things back then.

Holy Shit Ric Flair’s kids! Oh FFS, Vince’s promo is a bit close to the bone here. Vince is fucking HUGE FFS. I know he’s only 4 years older but they were both already well over their 50s here!!!

King – “ I do love a guy who gets off on abusing others” mmmmmmmmmmmm…

The Camera spot is quite funny, and I know no one sells like Flair, but fucks sake, how is Vince dominating against a 16 TIME CHAMPION. The monitor spot becomes a kinda cool call back but initially, it makes Flair looks like an idiot talking into a machine that can’t see him. Vince’s selling of the Figure 4 is hilarious. The match is mostly bollocks, but it’s entertaining bollocks, so I’ll give it that.

Rock vs Jericho was solid again, probably enjoyed this more than the last one despite having the exact same finish.

A decidedly cleaner looking Shawn Michaels screaming I’M FROM TEXAS there. This time would be him preparing to comeback which he does night after mania right?

So this rumble is a bit bollocks at first but as soon as Taker came out I was like IS THIS THE MAVEN ONE (LOOOOOOOL) quite like that Scotty gets fucked by Taker two years in a row. “Some of the finest women who ever Walked Atlanta.” Mmmmm (btw DDP has been eliminated). “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Mmmmm. Austin eliminating everyone twice is quite funny but fs it does nothing for those guys. LOL at Test’s heel music. The wristwatch thing isn’t as cool several years later mate. Quite LOL Trips gets his full entrance too which is so long it basically takes the entire time before the next entrance! AND IT’S HURRICANE HELMS, MY BOY!!! Of course, he’s eliminated immediately but it’s a good laugh. I swear Farooq get’s a heel reaction where Bradshaw got a relatively face one? Mr PERFEEECCCCTTT!!! How the bloody hell is this Kurt’s first Rumble?! This rumble’s really bad at telling us who is what number. Hehe Booker T eliminating RVD is a bit, Daniel Bryan.

My notes didn’t save here so I’m gonna guess I said:

Mr Perfect!

Overall show was a bit “meh” only really getting good with title match and last third of rumble

Just finished the Rumble and overall this PPV wasn’t great. I had to split up into 3 sittings because I found it a bit of a slog to watch despite nothing outright bad about the show as a whole.

The opening tag match was crap, generic and barely warmed the crowd up, a failure as far as openers go.

Regal Vs Edge was fun, the power of the punch is a great heel gimmick and once again these 2 put out a solid match. Not a fan of baby face Edge though. Regal is such a fucking great heel, his post match promo with frosty tip cole made me

The women’s match was much better than last months but still not great. Trish deffo should improvment and Jazz was always a good hand in the ring.

The title match was… technically fine but I didn’t care much for the booking and it was a bit lacking. Deffo weaker than I thought it would be. The booking at the end was bollock… couldn’t stand it. The main problem with this booking is that this the 3rd match in a row where someone got a visionary win over Jericho.

The Rumble was fun at the very start with the high number of nostalgia pops, then it went a bit shit, then Taker came out things improved. That amazing Taker/Maven spot never gets old, the realization on Maven’s face and utter fury and disbelief on booger reds face always cracks me up. After this spot the rumble enters a lengthy lull but things pick upe when Austin and the stars hit the Rumble and it becomes a great match… Kane deadlift picking up Big Show and dumping him over the ropes will never fail to impress. Cant believe they dumped out RVD Like that. Trips winning after being away for 8 months was cool and the right choice at the time.

Overall - A couple of cool moments. 2 Good matches on the undercard but nothing to get excited about.

I don’t recall seeing this show?!?!?! But this card looks incredible. Also known as the show where the nWo debut.

Goldust Vs Rob Van Dam

WWF Tag Title Match
Spike Dudley & Tazz © vs Booker T & Test
-> the tag teams in this era were really thrown together, huh?

WWF IC Title Match - Brass Knuckles On A Pole Match
William Regal © vs. Edge

The Rock Vs The Undertaker

No.1 Contender Match
Kurt Angle Vs Triple H
-> I’m confused, didn’t Triple H win the Royal Rumble?!?!?! Guess this will be explained to me in video packages

Undisputed Champion Title Match
Chris Jericho © Vs Steve Austin

So yeah, great looking card. Posted a day earlier because I fancied watching it as soon as I saw the card

vince’s promo were he announces the nWo are coming is one of my all time favourites, pure sports entertainment silliness.

skipped the rumble because it sounds rather mediocre, cba with that. looking back, I think 2002 was a bit shit in general until around summerslam. criminal really considering the talent they had available
