Drowned in Sound

Hi all

Been chatting to a few different people about what I’m doing with the DiS podcast, label and newsletter and curious if

A) you knew I was even doing this (the clicks when I have shared bits on here have been very low and response muted so I haven’t really pushed it much)

B) if you had any thoughts, feedback or suggestions

I’m trying to create something about the future of music, whilst also making sense of what’s currently broken. It’s aimed at fans as well as musicians and industry but wondering if I’ve got the balance right. Mostly following my nose of things that intrigue, confuse or excite me but am aware my curiosity can stray.

Anyway, 8th episode of podcast is out on touring and mental health and I’m thinking about small tweaks to it all.

Yes! The podcast is great, i’ve subed and listen. V good stuff, varied and intersting.

I think that the new content and branding is great, and feels like your heart is in it. I like it.

I knew about the label and enjoyed the track you posted in the new music thread last week. Didn’t know about the other bits! Personally I’m struggling to keep up with my current podcasts so doubt I’ll be able to cram in any more time for a new one

What I’ve listened to of the podcast has been fantasiic. Freely admit I need to read the Substack more!

Thank you. Glad you’ve enjoyed the pod. Feel like I’m still finding my feet a little but got some good ones in the can for coming weeks.

Substack I’m conflicted about because I hate email but I like using it as a phone app with newsletters to read. Some really good people have joined lately.

Latest edition based off a Twitter thread and Facebook post that was getting a lot of response

Glad you’re enjoying the pod. Trying to let my curiosity lead it and glad I’m not wandering into the dark. Plus also trying to ensure the episodes are fairly evergreen but a few will likely mark a moment in time. I was plotting the AI episodes long before it was so prominent in the headlines.

Coming up I have Isobel from https://www.instagram.com/femdiymusician/ on building her production school (lots of everyday lessons for people starting a business as well as understanding more about why women often feel shut out of the studio space) and speaking to Cherie Hu from https://www.waterandmusic.com/ about what music can learn from media (and vice versa) and how she’s grown her newsletter into a research community

Angela Mak who did the design is brilliant (she’s also an amazing musician and runs sound baths). She took some ideas I had with soundwaves, Unknown Pleasures, the cover to Cryptograms by Deerhunter and various other things I showed her (made a mood board below), and made something really special. The DiS social and podcast branding is a waveform of a voice note of me saying Drowned in Sound. The single covers is a segment from the songs.

Latest podcast is getting a lot of reaction from the industry about how to improve mental health on the road. You can download it on Apple here (maybe add a review if you get a minute, would be a big help) ‎Drowned in Sound: DiS008: Live Music And Mental Health on Apple Podcasts
