I wouldn’t prefer anything tbh Sean as then it would be my list as opposed to this website’s. I’m probably not representive of the kind of clientelle that would be reading this list normally though I just didn’t see much there that I haven’t seen in most other similar websites.

My list is here fwiw and I am finding it odd how overlooked Noname seems to have been this year from a lot of publications not just here: The forum album of the year discussion thread

Cringing at Bowie being at the top of lists. I can ALMOST see why someone would give it an 8 (Andre’s score) if they were considering his legacy and the fact it is slightly innovative, and if they were feeling generous, but it’s really weird that people are pretending it’s one of the best of the year just because he passed away.

It’s really brilliant, I know you’re not hugely into hip-hop but I think you’ll find something to take from it for sure. I was legit expecting to see it high up in a lot of lists this year as it’s got the added benefit of fitting some very relevant and zeitgeisty “narratives” as well (which is way more a reductive sentence than I want it to be) but I’ve not seen it in many so far.

Yeah, I’ve given it a once through and enjoyed it. I suspect I might like her as a guest spot artist more than an album in her own right artist (same as I feel with Danny Brown tbh) but I’ll definitely go back to it.

Fair dos - think that’s how I feel about yer manderson .Paak. Pretty obsessed with her at the moment.

Totally agree. Wouldn’t even get into my top 25 Bowie albums. And I was really sad when he died, as well.

A thumbs up to Nina Keen for having The Julie Ruin - Hit Reset in her top 3. I re-listened to it loads recently as I was going to their gig. Brilliant pick that’s gone mostly unnoticed by many.

Big fan of the new format/approach, @sean

Get sick of lists of the TOP 500 BEST ALBUMS this year, etc. Also really appreciate brief citations that actually give you an idea of style/genre/sound-a-like, so you can get an idea of whether it’s your kind of thing. Immediately followed up on two of the suggestion: Martha and Angel Olsen. I’ve seen the latter mentioned a couple of times on the forums, but without some indication that it might be something I’d like (other than DiS user X likes it so therefore it is obviously brilliant), I’ve had no reason check it out.

I wasn’t sure if people liked the format as it hasn’t had any reactions but for me I can’t stand those epic lists with 70 albums I’ve never heard of 20 I’m not that into and 10 that I like not as high as they should be. You end up feeling a bit lost with the 70 you don’t know as to whether there’s any gold in them piles of names…

Yeah, definite case of list fatigue this year. Also, four of my favourites (with a strange animal theme running throughout) - Bat For Lashes, Animal Collective, Flamingods, and GoGo Penguin - haven’t really featured on any publication’s list.

I’ve long since suspected that I’m out of touch, and I’ve no problem at all with not being in any way, shape, or form cool. But it’s weirdly disheartening to see the same albums, again and again and again, but in slightly different orders, wherever you go.

Even The Quietus list left me feeling exhausted this year. I couldn’t tell you why, but it almost feels like they went to great lengths to make it different for the sake of being different.
