What about the other 600!?

I gave Bamnan a mention already.

These are the ones that contain the good stuff right?

regretted not including anything from the last 2 years in mine, think it takes longer for me to consider an album a favourite these days though cos i tend to listen to more different stuff and binge on stuff less

I am saying how everything is brilliant but I am a relentlessly positive person.

reckon the SRSQ album I heard a couple of weeks ago might be in my all time top 10

really grinds my gears when people meta analyse threads

often seems way more negative then the authentic discussion they are commenting on

for me it’s just about de-legitimising anything people might have to say. Feels like all the stuff I have been saying and others has been quite specific, on topic or a mutual discussion back and forth. It’s not a bunch of bad faith or generic arguments. Not sure why it’s painted that way sometimes

I’ll try and remember to check tomorrow

I’d probably put the new yo la tengo one in a top something.

Great chat this.

I have definitely found that the things you really love come around less frequently as you age. And you see a lot of stuff that is clearly a retread of something from 20-30 years ago, and it’s easy to be cynical and jaded.

I wonder if this is not just a reduction in capacity to love music, but an active resistance to wanting to enjoy new things. Like when an artist has a 'change of direction’™ and their fans start to hate them. Maybe people link the sounds they loved in their youth to emotional experiences and want to cling on to them, like @bamnan says, because they can’t separate their liking for it from their memories of enjoying it.

On the other hand, people have been listening to Mozart for over 200 years and not getting sick of it. Maybe they got into it when they were young though.

Only skim read through the last few hundred posts since I last commented, so apologies if I’m covering trodden ground.

I thinking the rise of Spotify et al may be a factor in the number of 00s and 10s albums. It’s so much easier to reach such a large amount of music now even compared to when Limewire and that was at it’s peak. There’s so many more avenues to learn about new music compared to when magazines had more influence. I wouldn’t be surprised to find a similar amount of albums had be chosen from the 10s but accross a wider variety. I hope I still have a passion for new music as I enter my 30s, new stuff will always be made and reinvented.
I think it’s a great top 100 tbh, nothing in there that I’ve listened to that I wouldn’t think of as great music even if some stuff isn’t my bag. Hope the site and people’s passions are still around in 5 or 10 years for a comparative list.

Thanks. So, just the standard ratio for any DiS thread then.

would be interesting to look at the raw data to see if individual lists have more recent stuff

(would have been in my top 40 I reckon, maybe even 30)

reckon Carissa’s Wierd are the single most underrated band of this era, they had so many stands of things that would become popular, bit of emo, bit of post rock, bit of that maximalist big band indie thing

I guess it is their commitment to a typo in their name, doesn’t inspire confidence, looks sloppy
