I’m a doctor. Are my children allowed to make music? Am I?

I have a lot of problems with the way society is organised - anyone with half a mind can see that privilege and inherited wealth are butchering the world, but that doesn’t mean anyone from an educated family loses the right to communicate through art.

thanks for trying though!

I’ll answer your question by saying that I don’t really listen to new music sorry and haven’t felt inclined to try anything listed

Just listened to Ys for the first time and really enjoyed it. Quite rare for me to really like something on first listen, so that’s a promising sign.

The governor she is related to is a good governor too

they can make their art for the middle classes sure, still open to my criticism though. I’m not saying ban the art of middle class people

Find it a bit offensive to bring up shakespeare a guy who has been dead for hundreds of years as a counter point. Maybe you were just trying to be helpful?

No bother, it’s a long thread and what you’re talking about needs reference. I’m sorry if I misread you. You should keep listening to new music, someone at some point referenced ‘(sandy) Alex g’, Bobby is a good track if you want to try thrm out.

classic DiS, somebody comes in to wind me up, implying even that I am helping the far right! Somebody else joins the pile on with a gotcha then I get the blame

yes I’m fucking pissed off, people always make my points personal and about me and how stupid I am or how jealous I am and how unfair I am. Can’t believe people can’t see how this is different to my criticisms of artists, none of which are the people who are posting on here

I mean this in a genuine, non-piss take way but I’d log off and come back to this in the morning if I was you.

is that a threat? wtf!

I really don’t mean to pile on or oppress you in any way, I hope you’re well just want to discuss. It’s wrong that someone has an easier path to the music industry because of their familiar relations but that shouldn’t mean that people outside of that bubble can enjoy that music.

I have absolutely no idea how you’ve construed it as such, I genuinely burst out laughing at that. Goodnight.

yeah that’s not fucking helpful either is it.

very fucking funny

OOOO GUYS LOL SOMEBODY’S UPSET! WELL FUNNY

Of course it’s open to criticism. That’s the nature of any art. I just feel that to dismiss something out of hand because of who their parents are is counterproductive. It ossifies the separation between the more privileged classes and working classes.

There is no such thing as music for working class people and music for middle class people - it’s just people being creative.

Feel free not to listen to my work - I will continue enjoying yours

This is the only thing I wanted to come out of this thread.

Strongly recommend just sitting in the dark with Sawdust and Diamonds or Only Skin on your headphones and just letting your brain make pictures while you listen to the words. It’s genuinely transformative.

Genuinely sorry you’re upset and very disappointed that this lovely thread has spiralled.
Think everyone would be better off taking a break for a bit to be honest.

Literally the first song on Milk Eyed Mender mentions a fictional castle from CS Lewis’ fantasy series the Chronicles of Narnia
