Drownedinsound

Critical reception(View source for The Ketchup Song (Aserejé) - Wikipedia)

Andy Thomas from Drowned in Sound gave the song a 9 out of 10, stating, “The Ketchup Song is better than the Macarena…”, while acknowledging that the song is “not smart, it’s not clever, and it’s not going to get a single positive review outside of the teeny bop press.” Thomas described the song’s band members (Las Ketchup) as “three slightly odd-looking women from Spain who are the proud exponents of this year’s Macarena. It’s got dance moves (wiggle your hands, thumb a lift, raise your arms, knock your knees together) and a sunny video where the trio serve drinks in a beach bar.”[11]

Did you know it’s supposed to be a Spanish version of rappers delight? I didn’t.

Classic Thommo

Unrelated bit of serendipity that led to me setting up DiS

Andy ran a great fanzine at a time in the late 90s when fanzines were dying out.

Oddly I ended up sitting next to his brother on the first day of senior school.

And would end up discovering fanzine culture at like 13 or something through Andy. Who later would end up writing for DiS.

Unrelated bit of serendipity that led to me replying on DiS

France ran a great tournament at a time in the late 90s when tournaments were dying out.

Oddly I ended up sitting next to its founder on the first day of senior school.

And would end up discovering tournoi culture at like 13 or something through France. Who later would end up posting twice.

That’s lovely

The idea the ketchup song is anywhere near as good as the macarena is comical. Lovely example of recency bias.

sean’s duplicate post has been deleted now, so this doesn’t make sense anymore. Must be nice having a delete button

Neither does mine, thanks Sean!
