SL sounds a bit DC by numbers but the new one’s a grower. I was slightly underwhelmed when I saw them last year but that may have been due to the dodgy sound in the venue.

Someone at work said they sound like they’d be opening for The Rakes on one of those NME tours circa 2004 and I honestly can’t decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

She does occasionally sort of sing, but it is mostly that sort of talky style, yes.

Love everything about them. Also, love the fact that spoken words vocals is becoming huge because of them.

I’m not usually a lyrics guy, but I think what’s been really growing on me more and more as I’ve listened to the two EPs is that post-punk spoken word by way of Stewart Lee and Peep Show thing. I think ‘Conversation’ is fast-becoming my favourite of theirs.

I’m into the individual tracks, but I’m curious to see how the spoken word thing plays out over a full album or live show. Not sure if it’d get a bit tedious or not.

I’m a big fan of Rose Elinor Dougall’s voice so was looking for a while for a similar sounding singer with a dry English voice. Was not expecting to find it in a spoken-word post-punk band but I’ll take it. I’ve been thinking a lot of that line about thinking of eating that hot dog for hours.

Watching their 6 music festival set now. There’s something very strangely…captivating about them.

The vocalist seems like she ought to be in a completely different band from the other musicians but somehow it works.

Can’t help associating this lot with the start of lockdown in my mind now. Was going to go see them in the tiny Merleyn in Nijmegen just before lockdown was gonna kick in, and now that’ll probably never happen.
