Aye. The problem we had there was when we went out with our British mates who wanted to stay out until all hours though.

I never did quite get a handle on bar closing times in Berlin. Everywhere just seems to stay open until the last drinker leaves…

exactly, if you see people going for it, it tends to be tourists or ex-pats.

That is pretty much how it works, although my local does have a pretty strict 3am midweek 4am weekend

Which even then sounds insane!

Even little things like ‘prosting’ each drink helped make the drinking culture there feel a bit easier/better. I think that helped make it feel less like drinking for drinking’s sake.

Well its bars rather than pubs (kneipes) that tend to stay open late. Kneipes tend to be cheaper but older smoking dudes and close around 10/11 whereas “bars” tend to open late (at like 5/6) and close Late (3/4). I dunno where you are writing from but in Glasgow I would compare that to the state being open til 12 and Sleazies being open til 3. Not that different but much stricter in the UK

I’m doing a Dry-ish January, mainly as a byproduct of trying to lose weight, attempting to reduce anxiety and saving money. I’m seeing friends tomorrow, though, then am away next weekend, so booze will briefly be reintegrated into my lifestyle.

Fucking hell Soup Kitchen have no alcohol-free beer.

Gone to sit in Chapter 1 on my own and have a coconut latte instead.

For a sec there I thought you were working in a soup kitchen and complaining about the lack of beer choice

He hopes you don’t mean it.

No.

Not quite dry January, but kept it to 7.2 units and £15.85 spent this week.

It’s been a fairly enlightening experience. On the one hand, it’s been great to realise that I’m still having a good time (and feeling much better the next day!) without drinking loads. On the other, the spending doesn’t half add up!

my mate keeps sending me pictures of him and my other mates on a night out tonight :smirk:

Didn’t have TOO much at Paramore. And turned down wine today, don’t feel like I missed booze. Good stuff

Unintentionally having a Dryanuary by being too utterly skint to go anywhere I might drink and will probably continue that way until I get a job.

Having mixed results with 14 Units January. Not managed it either week yet BUT I didn’t drink on Saturday or Sunday over the weekend which I haven’t done in years. So yeah, went over my imposed limit, but I’m breaking the habit of drinking daily.

I actually quite like Beck’s Blue.
