Dungeons & Dragons (DnD)

the quickness of SW’s rules are great, and some of the systems I really like (like “bennies”) which encourage role playing and the collective storytelling

Yeah, I’m not really into that sort of stuff as much. I get the concept but I do prefer the GM running the show and giving us the story that we work into and go around. I guess it depends a lot on your preference for the game style too at that point

Mutants & Masterminds is another system I’ve really enjoyed but our GM is very good at creating a flexible superhero world setup for our superheroes to drop into, although he creates our guys based on our ideas because he reckons it would be too easy to make superpowerful or superpoor heroes using the system.

tried joining an online only one through east london D&D discord group, DM went AWOL after one session, but new campaigns are few and far between

Savage Worlds is excellent and absolutely amazing for home-brew games, the whole thing is set up for you to make of it what you will. I’ve been using it for like 12 years now and it’s so versatile and easy to pick up and (importantly) relatively cheap compared to other systems.

That said, I don’t think you can get away with calling DnD awful, especially 5e which brought a well-needed amount of balance to the system. It’s still the #1 go-to for epic, long running fantasy games in our group, and likely will be for many years to come.

Wish I’d kept my copy of this - spent far, far more hours intently reading it then actually playing the game though😄

Like all things Warhammer, the game world is vastly more interesting than the systems needed to play in it.

I wanted to buy a copy to read recently (like 6 years ago) but I think I got confused by the various editions and I couldn’t get a good consensus on which to buy. I didn’t try to hard clearly, was a sort of “right, will sort that later,” that never happened.

Crosspost jag

got my first session as dm in over two months on Sunday. I have forgotten EVERYTHING.

Also just feel like I chose the wrong campaign to do as my first one, it’s too complicated for my adhd brain to make satisfying i think :frowning:
(this is not me asking for reassurance I’m just irked with myself for being too ambitious)

Make a check against Confidence.

Deduct 2 if you’re suffering from Imposter Syndrome.

Things always look sketchy from the GMs seat.

Good luck!!

I’d love to give DM’ing a go at some point, but don’t quite have the confidence for it yet.

Good luck! You’ll be great once you get back into it. What campaign is it?
