CW: shit adolescence / homophobia

Because they were both bullies in their own way. My dad psychologically (pressuring me into doing stuff that he’d approve of) and my brother (beating me up; intimidation, etc). When I started going out with my first girlfriend, my brother’s words of ‘encouragement’ to me were ‘oh. Good. I always assumed you were a faggot’

They’ve apologised for how were and I’ve tried to move on but yeah, teenage CCB wasn’t happy.

Everyone on the placebo chat room (oh yes) at the time claimed to be in that video.

Just remembered how I was well into Placebo at the time we first got internet at home. My dad asked me what email address I wanted and I said I wanted nancyboy@whatever.com. I had no idea what it meant. My dad refused.

I definitely am in the queue near the beginning, where he sings the word ‘carve’, Brixton academy circa winter 98 supported by magoo I believe

Was it the first headline Brixton gig or something? I remember it being a big deal for the band/fans at the time.

So I’m guessing the majority of the lyrics of the song passed way over your head at the time?

1998 so was mainly Courtney Love and Kenickie and also the year where I missed Kenickie’s last ever gig to go to a Tony Adams book signing. Don’t think I even read the book. FFS.

something like:
kylie minogue --> belinda carlisle --> jonny greenwood --> paul draper --> kate bush --> cedric bixler-zavala --> whatever bollocks i’m into now

Oh yeah, I had no idea what it meant. I just knew it was rocking and this weird little guy in a dress was cool as fuck.

Strong.

remember my gf when i was about 14 saying that her favourite placebo song was ‘teenage angus’

Not sure, think it was the first one after their second album, I was really into them and it was the first time I’d seen them which suggests they hadn’t played for awhile, think they broke through after their debut had been out awhile so maybe this was the first wave post that

'Phonics and Manics were ubiquitous but always had a soft spot for

not on the same level obvs, but this reminds me of when I went on my first date into town around 12 or 13 or whatever, and my parents absolutely took the piss out of me because of it and then told my godparents about it who sent me a load of texts making fun of me.

just such a clinical, total way to break a kid’s confidence. still think about it and laugh tbh.

Loved Peter Buck, just wanted to be him when I grew up.

John Paul Jones too.
