Just remembered I was really into feeder upto and including their first album

I’m sure if Kurt Cobain had lived there would have been an acrimonious divorce.

About 10 years ago Courtney Love had me make some fashion accessories for her (ordered online). Dear god she was a pain in the arse to deal with, just for a small £25 order of some stuff. I’ve never encountered someone who can turn such a small question as “what colours would you like” into such a long drama.

In the days before you shaved your hair off?

Oddly enough yes.

Debbie Harry
As a hormonal early teen there were, of course, obvious reasons for this. However, Blondie were a great band and Debbie was (still is) a wonderfully charismatic lead singer. I guess it tells you more about me that these days when I listen to / watch Blondie I am more agog at Clem Burke’s brilliant drumming

Also “bough some silver pvc trousers” implied you didn’t actually wear them?

Yer standard late-90s bunch for a confused young lad - Brian Molko, Marilyn Manson, Billy Corgan, Manics…

Oh I wore them.

Somewhere at my dad’s house is this 80s home medical/family health guide. Last time I flicked through, the “masturbation” entry had this amazing photo of a grossed out mother picking a magazine up from a teenage boy’s bedroom decorated with loads of posters of Debbie Harry. I wish I’d taken a photo of it. I’ll try to find it next time I visit.

Of course the bed had those grey and red diagonal striped sheets.

My mum said she’d destroyed the negatives!
ffs

It is Brian molko’s fault I had a centre parting bob for most of the late nineties

Maybe buddy holly. I really liked Ash too. but as a unit.

I think a lot of people can say the same. Lawsuit time?

Also people with light coloured hair dying it black, and then having pale roots that look like they’re thinning.

I’ve no idea what happened to all of my clothes from this period. I assume I binned them with extreme prejudice.

Yeah, a friend of mine had that look. Talking of lawsuits I think the kid on the cover of their debut did sue them for years of teasing that ensued

My early musical idols were Michael Jackson & ELO …but that was from the age of 4 or 5

at 13 it was very definitely Prince and lots of r&b/soul & pop stuff but I was just beginning to listen to bands like The Cure and a bunch more introspective white boy stuff like Paul Simon & Lloyd Cole

Was a proper Oasis/Liam Gallagher fanboy around that age. Bought a long parka, tried (with disastrous results) to replicate his haircut, even went as far as to defender Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

Didn’t really start getting into music until I was 17 (but I grew up threw an uninteresting period of music imo, and most people at school are into terrible music).

The first bands I was into were Radiohead, Nirvana and Oasis (and then Blur). Still listen to Radiohead, not so much the other three. I never listen to Nirvana at all, which is weird.

Idols were probably Thom Yorke and Liam Gallagher. I knew Liam Gallagher was considered a massive twat but I kind of admired him just for being himself and not caring about what other people think. I don’t have much respect for him now though.
