Seems like it’s a bit early, but having sorted our hotel, booked the leave and started buying tickets it felt like it may be okay to start the thread.
Feels like I want to say that ITT we can take the fact that we’re all conscious of the cost, issues with corporate sponsorship, impact on residents and so on as read and just keep it to what we’re planning on seeing, recommendations, food and drink suggestions etc.
In a startling display of foresight, I’ve already booked us in to see Xhloe and Natasha on the Monday night 2 for 1, and, having missed it due to the high winds last year, got us 2 for 1 on the Ragnarock North Mythos wrestling on the Tuesday.
EDIT - Inspired by @greenfinch - Let’s experiment with if we can do a 2 for 1 hook up service for people who may be at the fringe on their own / happy to sack of IRL people, and will meet a DiSer to get those sweet, sweet discounts.
I wish it was half price tickets rather than 2 for 1, as someone who tends to go alone to the Fringe, it’s a shame I can’t take advantage of that!
I’ve booked Xhloe and Natasha, and had already booked Daniel Kitson for later in the month (which was lucky as it’s basically sold out unsurprisingly).
Getting those two days booked up at the moment, thinking of Phil Ellis & John Kearns for the Daniel Kitson day, and looking at doing a weekend on the first weekend so I can see some late night stuff.
Thinking of catching Creepy Boys: Slugs after Xhloe and Natasha as I missed out on them last year.
Going to need to find a way to catch this at some point during the month, a show based on In The Aeroplane Over the Sea is laser targeted at me
It is both early and not early - our spare room has been booked since January by various friends.
I’m directing a friend’s standup show this year so please look forward to me trying to convince everyone to go see that closer to the time. (She’s very very good.)
When I was there in 2019 I remember that The Stand did this, I bought a single ticket at their box office during the 2 for 1 day and they charged me half price for it.
Her last show was so good! Definitely recommend but I am also biased.
I’ve been doing standup about 8 years and I’ve helped friends figure out their shows before but this is my first time doing it with the title. Little bit daunting but I think it’s gonna be really fun!
I would like to go to something this year after I nearly did last year and saw the backs of mert and unlucky then was denied entry because my ticket was for the wrong day lol
Saw a couple of previews last week, Tom Neenan’s was basically finished and really great. Covers some heavy topics but with a really high hit rate for laughs.
Sophie Duker’s show was a bit more messy as she had far too much material. Who would’ve guessed that talking about the failings of men would be such a productive topic. Still really good and I’m sure she’ll have it wrapped up by the time the Fringe starts.
Have identified Crybabies’ The Scaring as a Sunday evening 8pm slot show, meaning I’ve had to ask my friend to change our dinner plans, to move closer to the venue.
Felt Nowt (a local CIC run by comedians) have a venue this year
Lots of good folk there - Elaine Robertson, Alex Redman, Jake Donaldson, Kelly Rickard - plus some quite silly looking late night stuff that I wish I could go to.
Probably have time for a few more shows but may take random half price / free punts on the day.
Also booked to see Paddy Young and Lin Ji Hao on their tour dates here rather than at the Fringe. Would really recommend Lin Ji Hao, he’s very funny and his delivery of material is often phenomenal.
Saw my first absolute belter of a show this year today in Chris Cantrill’s Rewilding. Simultaneously extremely funny and unbelievably tight from a narrative perspective. Really impressive stuff.
