Edinburgh.

There’s one of these already, deffo, but I can’t find it.

TV has booked us 5 hours or so in Edinburgh on the 25th. I haven’t been for 30 years, and she’s never been.

Cheap train tickets to blame.

What should we do in 5 hours? What’s fun/beautiful/unique/delicious/outrageous or wondrous?

One in the outrageous/ wondrous category.

Surgeons’ Hall Museums.

Walk up Calton Hill for the views

Go to Loudons for ridiculous pancakes / other brunch items

If you want a record shop the one at the bottom of Cockburn Street is good

I like the Portrait Gallery on Queen Street, it has a photography gallery up top that usually has good stuff on

of the big ticket or visitor focused stuff, Arthur’s Seat walk/climb, the Botanic Gardens, and tbh I really enjoyed the Camera Obscura even as a full grown adult. Could do tours of the closes and dungeons, never actually have myself but that definitely will be on the unique side at least

infinite good food and drink options if you just want to wander nice bits of a city and indulge, but that might not be where you wanna focus. But if so than any of Stockbridge, Leith Walk, southside/Morningside will do you nicely. Can give personal favs if you think stopping off to eat drink will be priorities

I didn’t even look. Remember going pre-pandemic and it was pocket change prices.

At current prices it isn’t such an attractive attraction. It’s good gory education, but at nearly £10 per person you’d want to maximise the your time.

oh no just meant the city as a whole! i somehow have never done Surgeon’s Museum myself after all these years, so that’s something on my own to-do for the next couple dull months

We’ll be in wandering round mode, so I guess looking for some good wandering targets, .and a few coffee/lquick lunch recommendations if there are any obvious ones that might also be on good wandering routes!

another good one is the Water of Leith walk, can take you from the Shore through some leafy cycle paths, can keep going for ages or pop out at my part of town which is full of all the nice coffee shops

will think of some specific names

There’s this exhibition on

Though is a bit of walk from city centre.

(Think I’m actually going on the 25th )

Looking back over old photos.

Museum of Childhood. if you like weird looking dolls.

Summerhall. Not sure what’s currently being displayed. There was a great extinction rebellion section, but I could have been only for the Fringe.

Edinburgh Zoo. It’s a zoo, but this one is on a hill. Had a panda on loan when I was there. Depends on your ethical feeling about zoo’s I suppose. Wasn’t cheap. Used Tesco clubcard points for cheaper tickets. This was when I could afford to shop in Tesco.

Summerhall is sadly a no go currently due to financial … stuff. Otherwise I’d have strongly recommended too!

Fingers crossed it’s back for next fringe

:point_up_2: I second this. And that means…

There’s Fortitude coffee which is <1min across the street. Or, 6-7min stroll to Artisan Roast which, few years since I’ve been but I liked an awful lot!

Also all close to Calton Hill which as @guntrip suggests is worth the stroll.
