Gonna pick this up today. Really enjoyed Take Off. And Build a Rocket, though it maybe had a few more missteps than their other albums. Looking forward to hearing this. Consistently great band, great bunch o’ albums.

Given it a number of listens now. It’s beautiful. Yearning for a Glastonbury sunset slot - just before Radiohead.

This is bloody lovely, not really paid much attention to Elbow since Cast of Thousands but really enjoying this. I like that it’s a bit subtler than their more recent stuff. Montparnasse is particularly special. If I was being highly critical I’d maybe remove Gentle Storm and Firebrand and Angel but they may grow on me. Also love that they spin the title track out over 8 mins, for me they make the sort of music that is well suited to being given time to develop.

Absolutely love the title track.

This is great, it’s the first Elbow album I’ve paid attention to in years. Favourites so far are ‘Trust the Sun’, ‘Firebrand & Angel’ and ‘Little Fictions’. There doesn’t seem to be any filler on here though. Pleasantly surprised at how good this is.

Really liking the new album.

Also just found this live video - holy fuck

My fave:

They also put up the whole set from one of their gigs at the Manchester Apollo:

Probably the best gig I’ve seen out of the four times I’ve seen them, although the first gig got them playing Powder Blue which I’m jealous af about.

Wow, that version of Any Day Now…

Hadnt seen this. Its glorious.

This is really terrific stuff, beautiful sounding too. They stepped up the production on the last couple of albums, but the songs maybe dipped a little. This is the best of both worlds.

Have seen them dozens of times over the years and never yet disappointed. Highlights were,

The first time around the Asleep In The Back release maybe. Guy used to operate a sampler in the live shows - I think mainly for percussive stuff like shakers which would play continously throughout a song. The roadies used to set up a music stand next to the sampler and fill all of the holes in the mesh of it with white plastic spoons that they drew smiley faces on - then at the start of each song Guy would take one of the spoons and use it to jam the sampler button so that it would keep triggering throughout the song.

At Glastonbury just before Cast of Thousands in the set where they recorded the crowd singing “we still believe in love, so fuck you”. It was a warm afternoon, I’d had a few drinks and I lay somewhere towards the back listening and occasionally drifting off for a song or two. Fantastic.

And the Delamere forest gig others mentioned too was pretty special. The area where they set up the stage with the hill and trees forming a natural ampitheatre is a perfect setting.

I saw them at the Zodiac the week AITB came out, they totally blew me away. Was also at the Glastonbury set.

Probably going to go against the grain and say I’m not completely into this.

It has plenty of nice moments, and the odd brilliant track (Magnificant, Montparnasse, Little Fictions) but far too much of it passes me by. Weirdly enough, this criticism is something I could level at all Elbow albums except Cast of Thousands and The Takeoff and Landing of Everything…so it probably says more about me than anything

Still consider them a great band, despite this.

Stumped up for the gorgeous looking boxset today. I’ve not enjoyed an Elbow album this much since Leaders of the Free World.

Yeah same here on the boxset - mine arrived last night - very classy and has a cool little gift hidden away

Really think this one of their better albums - Trust The Sun good easily sit on Asleep In The Back (all percussion and rhythm) imo, the title track as other peeps have mentioned has a killer beat propelling the song (like Dan The Automator came in to help out on production - apparently according to the linear notes this is sampling Ginger Baker!), and Kindling is deeply moving (the lyrical highlight for me) - like The Velvet Underground on uppers

I think they make some of the best sounding (production wise) albums around - love hearing all the little sonics elements and how the instruments sound - one of the reasons i like All Disco on the album is because that droning female voice just high enough in the mix to offset against the music

I get why a lot people (on face value) find them dull or “boring” but i find them so musically rich and generally life affirming (they have gotten me through a lot of tough times)

I hope they continue long into the Night

Not sure I prefer it to Take-Off yet, but Magnificent, Gentle Storm and K2 are up there with their best. I’m a picky bastard when it comes to his lyrics, but the boy done good. Love the focus on rolling rhythms and the anthemic stuff is a bit more toned down this time. Have to say they’re very consistent (in a good way).

Saw them last night and they were wonderful as ever. Little Fictions was the highlight off the new album - they got a proper groove going with that song. Magnificent (She Says) was as the title suggests. And they played The Birds which is inevitably my highlight
Just one of my favourite live acts.

yeah I saw them on Sunday and they were great. nice to see them in a proper venue rather than the enormodomes they’ve been playing in recent years (the main reason I haven’t seen them since take off). “Great Expectations” was absolutely amazing, could have done with at least something off Asleep In the Back and i don’t think i was the only person to find All Disco really dull, Little Fictions is a fine new addition to the live show though.

:open_mouth:

Let’s be a hundred and five
You and I
And sing out a tune
Of regrets to the moon

That song is everything that I love about Elbow. Each to their own and all that

If they still do Great Expectations I might have to get off my arse and go see them.
